I would like to make the suggestion, that we change our download categories on ENISS sites. Now it looks like a developer would like to see it, alphas, betas, certifieds tec.. A user possibly would like to see: eNvolution core - actual - fixes - historic Modules - eNvo certified - Third party - translations - experimentals - fixes Blocks - eNvo certified - several categories like calendar, news and file functions Themes - eNvo certified - several categorie, maybe for commercial use and shoot and fire etc. Documentation - Admin - User The rest Have a ot of fun! Hi @all I will be back "full time" end of next week. Then I can start to talk to all developers in details again. First: I have read the threads on eNvo.com-forum "eNvo&PN" and can't follow the discussion clearly because I haven't understand it 100%. But I see more disadvantages than advantages if we reunion the two projects. But we can participate from each other. So we can use some code from PN, i.e. security issues, API-functions, recoded core-modules, etc. Otherwise PN can use our theme-engine-knowhow for their new Xanthia-engine. For us it would be very important because we want to use several 3rd-party-modules which are coded for PN. We can only use them without changings, if the fundament of our API and other functions is nearly the same as PN uses. This doesn't mean that we can't modify or change them for our needings. We only have to be a bit carefully by doing this. And another point is (this is for me the most important thing), that our community is differently structured. Our resolution is Open Source. This means that every eNvo-member is part of the development process. Without the feetback of every eNvo user we can't create a stable, full-featured CMS product for the whole community. I think we will lost this very important point if we combine both projects again. eNvo exists since 1 year. It was hard work to bring up the actual version (1.2.5 FLS) to what it is now. Also the community grow and work perfectly together. We should not risk that ! Ok. You also talk about needed standards, rules, guidelines for developing. I think this thema is a bit more complex to write it here on mailinglist. You can read my points of view on envolution.com as an article tonight. This article includes: 1. What we have to do next 2. What we have to consider with programming 3. Some rules for source codes (note: using of phpWiki for documentation) 4. Using of API (or all files in folder "includes") 5. New structured API 6. Centralize images, functions, code blocks 7. Uniform design for buttons, input forms, lists and outputs (for core and 3rd-party) 8. Code clearing to reduce multi-calls and speed up 9. How we can build teams for this new tasks, who is part of what 10. How we have to communicate I hope we can discuss this points and can find a solution for this organisational structure. So we have rules, guidelines and standards and everyone knows where we want to go and what he has to do. Possible there are missing points. I don't want to dictate. We have to talk about. At the end of discussion I hope everybody can except this paper for "eNvolution Development Standards". I've seen that you already put it in the italian doc of 1.25, so it nee= d to be translated. For the "rules on the envolution style of programming for the developer= " document there is a sort of plan? can we suggest an index so to organiz= e the information and refer to you? We'll need it because we have to give something to our developers that = will have to write the custom modules. Luca aka csipiemonte ps. Can I give a textarea a different value or am I looking at a limitation in this assignment somehow $var[user_sig]. As it is resumes are getting truncated and perhaps some users don't care to re-edit their resumes and cover letters. |

Hello, Just before MADHATter7 left Envolution to persue other things he and ApathyBoy wrote a rendering API to address the presentation layer. It's been in the packaging for quite sometime and gone unnoticed I think. It's includes/envRender.php It is documented at: http://www.envolution.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=162 envRender eliminates the Zone system and provides the theme designer 100% control over page layout. With envRender you are allowed to have layout organization as powerful as with the old Frontpage module only in any module. It still uses smarty but is not attached to it. It's an abstraction layer that any template engine can use above it. And it elimenates the need for pnHTML altogether. Postnuke also has the envRender that MADHATter7 and ApathyBoy created but honestly neither PN or Envo developers have attempted to use it as far as I can tell. Perhaps it's time to take the lead and see what we can do with this software. If anyone needs any help with this ApathyBoy asked me to invite anyone to contact him and he will explain it in detail and help out all he can. He can be reached via AIM ...his username is apathynight. Zoom |

There are no current talks between PostNuke and Envolution so development should not stop because we chose to bring the issue in the public eye and discuss it. Envolution has tried twice in recent months to at leats get Postnuke to the table to discuss the possibilities. Both times Postnuke refused to do so......so PLEASE ....keep development moving. Sitting on the fench waiting for something which may never happen is not productive for anyone. Zoom |

The daily_archive module is done this way with pnGetModURL. This function is slow sometimes in updating from one site to the next. See www.sudbury.linuxguru.ca and test how the function behaves by then visiting www.sherbrooke.linuxguru.ca and watching how the function reports the URL. It does not adjust to a new site name. I have had to alter some of the code to directly place people at the index. > 2) In the permission's instance, what is the difference between :: and .* ? > Are they synonyms? @Arden: Please remember that we support Oracle. For the Oracle installation the fields pn_user_sig and pn_bio are defined as VARCHAR2(255). Oracle doesn't know anything of "tinytext" or "longtext". The problem is, that the maximum length under Oracle is 255. Other solution is, to change the field definition to "text" so we can define it for Oracle as CLOB. But your mods in Users looks very nice. Your idea to use user_sig and bio for detailed personal infos like an application writing down and personal record is new. Nobody ask for such a feature. Nevertheless, it would be a good thing and gives a new meaning to the fields. When someone has a minute can I get some feedback on my choice of data type for these fields. I'm wondering why original development had the fields pegged at 255 varchar for the user_sig and tinytext for the bio. Also if you expand all the fields in the Members_List module fileds like bio and user_sig are not set for display. I ran into this trying to implement more search functionality for my members. To see what the SPChat, RTE_Multi does for a user profile check this link out: http://www.workwanted.ca/user.php?op=userinfo&uname=Admin On Thu, 2003-07-17 at 13:40, Arden Wiebe wrote: > I have a working modification with the SPChat module altering with the > RTE_Multi the Signature and Bio areas of the user table. > > I believe with some hacking that > /NS-Your_Account/user/modules/changeinfo.php could be replaced by the > /SPChat/profile.php form. > > Right now I have changed the > /NS-Your_Account/user/links/links.changeinfo.php to lauch the chat > whereupon users can choose to edit their Resume and Cover Letter > (Signature and Bio) from that interface with RTE_Multi Enabled. > > I changed the table structure in the envo_user table for pn_user_sig and > pn_bio both to longtext from their original to handle the extra bulk. > Does anyone see anything wrong with the data types for those two fields > that I have altered? > > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.net email is sponsored by: VM Ware > With VMware you can run multiple operating systems on a single machine. > WITHOUT REBOOTING! Probably because there is nothing you can add! It's only a flame war if you want it to be, but since I disagreed with your double talk and since we are not friends it must be a flame war right?
