Assume -R? [n] so i opened another shell to see it was grsec patches ! Amazing as the=20 option was disabled for a while in my selection! So i edit .config file=20 to see that there is no ligne with CONFIG_GRSECURITY=3Dn !!! Maybe it's part of the pb ? Hope it's not an error from me in the build process ... the only thing i=20 add was the hostap driver which build in 292, too late to impact build=20 at that time. I posted a question concerning dir /usr/include/linux which i could not=20 find : it seems to "appear" in his directory after make unpack or=20 build, i don't know as make build automaticaly unpack sources if they're=20 not. I'm a little bit disturbedabout that as your documentation talks about=20 renaming it to linux2 in chapter 1.2, at the begining of the process and=20 the directory is created at a latter time (chapter 2 i guess); it is=20 quite amazing for a newbie like me as you seems to give the whole=20 process to build in a chronological order ; by the way, why rename it to=20 linux2 ? I'm very curious :-) Thanks for your help and great job! ps. i hope after build was successful i can contribute to your efforts=20 with my work to integrate hostap driver for wireless; i 'm building last=20 cvs which gives really interesting new features. last question, it seams=20 a good idea not to modify sources from original tarballs, and to override=20 things to be changed with options in the make commands, but i was forced=20 to comment out 3 lines in the main Makefile (of the hostap tree) to=20 prevent depmod -a to execute at install time : is it against your=20 philosophy to do that or is it alright? (it's certainly more difficult=20 to maintain as versions grows) Should i make patch files ? should i ask=20 developpers of the hostap driver to modify their Makefile so i can=20 disable it when doing make install ? Ok, i stop my newbies questions ;-) Best Regards MaNS >Heiko > > >------------------------------------------------------- >This SF.net email is sponsored by: Etnus, makers of TotalView, The debug= ger=20 >for complex code. This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.01a05' of 'cdrtools' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/cdrecord/ The changes in this release are as follows: This version now compiles correctly on SCO UNIXWare. The symlinks introduced with 2.01a04 now use relative names. Project description: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs with a CDR/CDRW recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. It supports CD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD writers. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. I didn't find a bug within the build system, the only problem was that you could select grsec when xfs is enabled, that is corrected now. When you (de-)select i.e. grsec between compiles, you have to do a "make mrproper" to clean out the patched kernel. Heiko |

Hi, I looked over Webmin, since it was mentioned as a configuration service for DL -- and it is straight and simple perl. It does not even use Apache as it has a perl webserver. This is good news for me since I believe that perl is the only language necessary for life, except possibly Korn Shell (KSH). Perl uses a concept called "complex structures" to contain all information. These can be frozen to disk, but without code, just data. There is a tool to facilitate code and possibly binary storage, which I need to look into. You could think of these as XML documents, but written by programmers rather than ... well, my opinion of XML is not glowing. The biggest problem with the custom compile, will not be DL itself, since the present version works pretty well, but the KERNEL compile. There is a kernel config project in sourceforge but a recent email suggested that they are at odds with Linus himself... I had written an education document for my Perl Users of NY group and this is the URL. http://www.thinman.com/perl_primer/ It is based on Perl5.5.3 and I have a win32 support version called gnoo-nix in: http://www.thinman.com/win32/. This includes an entire ZSH un*x-on-win32 package but needs some maintenance, SSH is version one, for instances, and there is a mingw branch pumping out all new GNU software in sourceforge. This is a perl5.5.3 release. In my opinion, all perl after this version fails user-accpetance because many scripts written under perl5.5.3 dont run on perl5.6 and perl5.8 Amazingly, Perl6 will have different syntax, so it is not perl at all. My people tell me that Ruby, a logical extension of perl, is really the best available language, though Java and C++ make the real money. I am also completing a project called DepthDB, or "the puzzle." It is a complex structure database and desktop, my snapshot output is at: http://www.thinman.com/cgi-bin/Depth It is a complex structure database and desktop, my snapshot output is at: http://www.thinman.com/cgi-bin/Depth http://www.thinman.com/cgi-bin/Depth.lib is the update version and will run under https but is presently broken. I had to abandon while I was recovering from PTSD. It was triggering memories of the disaster because I was working on it when the enemy struck. My laptop was stolen as well in December, setting me back about 1 month of work on this project. --- Friedrich Lobenstock <fl...@fl...> wrote: > Hello Heiko and all! > > If I remember correctly some time ago you wanted to abandon the > current build system in favour of a new and more flexible one. > In your feature request [devil-linux-Feature Requests-693367] I > see: > do not use build/123script anymore > > introduce system which uses dependencies and calls the > scripts in the right order > do it similar to the insserv utility > > Why not use insserv without changing it? Hello Heiko and all! If I remember correctly some time ago you wanted to abandon the current build system in favour of a new and more flexible one. In your feature request [devil-linux-Feature Requests-693367] I see: do not use build/123script anymore introduce system which uses dependencies and calls the scripts in the right order do it similar to the insserv utility Why not use insserv without changing it? Just adding the following lines to each script? Here an example for the kernel (build/scripts/linux): ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: linux # Required-Start: # Required-Stop: # Default-Start: config build # Default-Stop: # Description: linux kernel build stage 1 ### END INIT INFO Here an example for the kernel (build/scripts/linux-2): ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: linux-2 # Required-Start: linux # Required-Stop: # Default-Start: build install # Default-Stop: # Description: linux kernel build stage 2 ### END INIT INFO -- MfG / Regards Friedrich Lobenstock ____________________________________________________________________ Friedrich Lobenstock FL226-RIPE Internetservices URL: http://www.fl.priv.at/ Email: fl...@fl... ____________________________________________________________________ |

You can stop trying. GRSec and XFS don't like eachother, but the grsec maintainer has released a xfs-compatible patch which I have to add to D= L. It seems that there's a bug with the grsec build script, I'll take a lo= ok at it today/tomorrow and post here when it's fix. For now you could just give it a try without XFS, then it should work. Don't select "wvdial" and "passwdgen", those 2 fail under the new build= system, too. (They're not compatible with glibc 2.3.x/gcc 3.2.x) Regards Heiko = |

This email is to inform you about the release of version '0.7.2' of 'libpcap' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/libpcap/ The changes in this release are as follows: This maintenance release adds several minor bugfixes and features. Project description: This is a handy little library which provides a packet filtering mechanism based on the BSD packet filter (BPF). Most notably, tcpdump needs this to work, and there is also a perl module (still in beta) which can use this as well. This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.0.6' of 'Postfix' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/postfix/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release intends to protect vulnerable Sendmail systems against exploitation of a remote buffer overflow problem that is described in CERT advisory CA-2003-07. Project description: Postfix is an attempt to provide an alternative to the widely-used Sendmail program. Postfix attempts to be fast, easy to administer, and hopefully secure, while at the same time being sendmail compatible enough to not upset your users. This email is to inform you about the release of version '1.9.1' of 'Snort' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/snort/ The changes in this release are as follows: A remote root vulnerability in the RPC fragment normalization code was fixed along with some other bugs, and some new options were added. Project description: Snort is a lightweight network intrusion detection system, capable of performing real-time traffic analysis and packet logging on IP networks. It can perform protocol analysis, content searching/matching and can be used to detect a variety of attacks and probes, such as buffer overflows, stealth port scans, CGI attacks, SMB probes, OS fingerprinting attempts, and much more. Snort uses a flexible rule based language to describe traffic that it should collect or pass, and a modular detection engine. Snort has a real-time alerting capability, with alert mechanisms for syslog, a user specified file, a UNIX socket, or WinPopup messages to Windows clients using Samba's smbclient. This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.0.5' of 'Postfix' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/postfix/ The changes in this release are as follows: The SMTP server's hard and soft error limits are no longer off by one. With "smtpd_hard_error_limit = 1", Postfix now disconnects after the first error instead of the second one. The proxymap server no longer deadlocks when the mydestination parameter setting includes a proxy-mapped lookup table. Some fixes were made to the documentation.
