This email is to inform you about the release of version '1.2.2' of 'Distributed Checksum Clearinghouse' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/dcc-source/ The changes in this release are as follows: This version adds support for greylisting. Project description: Distributed Checksum Clearinghouse (DCC) is a system of clients and servers that collect and count checksums related to mail messages. The counts can be used by SMTP servers and mail user agents to detect and reject bulk mail. DCC servers can exchange common checksums. The checksums include values that are "fuzzy", or constant across common variations in bulk messages. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. I uploaded changes on Friday that checks the floppy/USB media if none is found then it checks (and uses) the etc.tar.bz2 in the root directory of the CDROM (if there). If it finds _blank_ media (instead of _no_ media), it still asks to copy a default config to it. I also have a script that will replace/add file(s) on an existing CDROM/ISO. Where should I put that script? It doesn't run under DL, but needs to run under a normal distro with mkisofs and a lot of free hard drive space. - BS |

Still existing, I just didn't have time to fully implement it. Many of my latest changes to the system are made to support this functionality. Heiko |

Possibly, but I don't think so. In other VMware OS installs, the reboot command works, and halt shuts off power to VMware. I can't test it on a real computer because I don't have a PC with a SCSI CD drive handy. With VMware it's easy to test. After the boot starts, click the menu to disconnect the CD. Then the boot can't find it. On a real IDE-CD box, I'd have to disconnect cables on a running machine at the right time. I don't really want to try that. :-) - BS |

You're also taking about getting rid of the CD drive, along with the USB/floppy device that holds the config? If you're not going to get rid of the CD drive, then it doesn't gain much over my idea to provide a default configuration right on the CD. My DL firewall/router would become totally dependent on a separate file server. If the file server went down, so would my DL firewall/router. And there are the security issues. Typically a lot of people have access to a file server (probably a lot more people than have login access to the DL firewall). And the file server is running a lot more services than the DL box. This makes the file server easier to crack than DL. If the file server is compromised, then the attacker would then have the ability to modify the DL firewall configuration. Plus the NFS protocol is very insecure itself. Too scary for me! :-) - BS |

Bugs item #797417, was opened at 2003-08-29 13:24 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by Item Submitter You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=410643&aid=797417&group_id=34096 Category: Configuration / Scripts Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 1 Submitted By: Bruce Smith (blubdog) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: busybox "reboot/halt" cmds not working Initial Comment: In the initrd script: "mount_cdrom", if a CD cannot be mounted, the script displays an error, waits two minutes and reboots. Unfortunately the reboot command (busybox) appears to do nothing. I tried manually creating the link to busybox. I tried using the full path "/sbin/reboot". I also tried the busybox commands "halt" and "poweroff". All failed in vmware 4. To make it appear a little nicer, I removed the "exit" command after the reboot command in the loop so it just hangs now instead of returning to linuxrc and crashing the kernel. The "exit" command should not be needed anyway if the reboot command works. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=410643&aid=797417&group_id=34096 |

i've been playing with ltsp for a couple of days and liked too much the idea of booting from any network card. This means (for example) that why could get rid of a compactflash adapter (on a small router box) so it could be made even smaller (no mechanical parts, less power consumtion etc...) So, the question is... has someone think about making dl interact with ltsp, or at least, to boot from network instead of cd? There are only a few kernel modifications needed (ip autoconfiguration on startup and nfs client support), and a few scripts that need to be redone (more or less the dhcp-client side stuff)... And some good news, ltsp is going to release version 4, which has separate (and clearly differenciate) modules, one for the nfs/boot system, other for the basic soft, other for the x subsystem... Surely i'll buy an epiaM6000CL on this month and will start testing. (epia site: www.viapsd.com, www.mini-itx.com) comments, suggestions, ideas, flames? :) -- -- gnupg keyfingerprint -- 48AF 5BF9 8F54 2966 64CC 2327 7CD0 DD91 B09D 5799 -- Use of a keyboard or mouse may be linked to serious injuries or disorders. Do you want me to do it, or are you going to? > >(or have you already done it?) > > You can do it. > I most likely won't have any time before next week and it was your idea > and I'm lazy. All done. The two new filenames start with "DL-*": ------------------------------------------------------------ root:/data/build# ls -l dist/devil-linux-0.6Beta1-2003-08-29-i586 total 277644 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Aug 29 11:59 . drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Aug 29 12:00 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2151 Aug 29 11:58 DL-build-config -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 29883 Aug 29 11:58 DL-kernel-config -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 283508736 Aug 29 11:59 bootcd.iso drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Aug 29 11:59 docs -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 460709 Aug 29 11:59 etc.tar.bz2 ------------------------------------------------------------ I also added a check for an environment variable named "$DLDEVELOPER". If it's set, the script appends a "-$DLDEVELOPER" to the end of the filenames created for upload to the ftp site. That way I can add this in in my lfssystem /root/.bash_profile file: export DLDEVELOPER="bs" And the filenames are created as follows: ------------------------------------------------------------ root:/data/build# make dist compressing files done root:/data/build# ll dist/ total 90420 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Aug 29 12:00 . drwxr-xr-x 10 root root 4096 Aug 29 11:59 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 43981 Aug 29 12:00 CHANGES-devil-linux-0.6Beta1-2003-08-29-i586-bs drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Aug 29 11:59 devil-linux-0.6Beta1-2003-08-29-i586 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 92431788 Aug 29 12:00 devil-linux-0.6Beta1-2003-08-29-i586-bs.tar.bz2 ------------------------------------------------------------ Friedrich may find this useful too. And for Heiko, leaving $DLDEVELOPER unset creates the original filenames (and no extra dash). - BS |
