As far as I can tell, it's already turned on. This option is selected:
=81 CONFIG_VIDEO_SELECT: =
=81
=81 =
=81
=81 This enables support for text mode selection on kernel startup. If =
=81
=81 you want to take advantage of some high-resolution text mode your =
=81
=81 card's BIOS offers, but the traditional Linux utilities like =
=81
=81 SVGATextMode don't, you can say Y here and set the mode using the =
=81
=81 "vga=3D" option from your boot loader (lilo or loadlin) or set =
=81
=81 "vga=3Dask" which brings up a video mode menu on kernel startup. (T=
ry =81
=81 "man bootparam" or see the documentation of your boot loader about =
=81
=81 how to pass options to the kernel.) =
=81
=81 =
=81
=81 Read the file Documentation/svga.txt for more information =
=81
=81 about the Video mode selection support. If unsure, say N. =
=81
=20
Now to find the loadlin file on the CD where I add "VGA=3D" ...

Hey, for a long time I wanted to add vesa support and run my textmode in a higher resolution. I didn't do it because I had some issues on some computers. But since Bruce wrote that nice script to modify files on the CD, we co= uld offer a way to change the "VGA=3D" boot parameter. What ya'll think about it? cya Heiko = |

Ditto, I can do "normal" C programs, but the kernel stuff is beyond me. I read one posting about this error that said it compiles with the kernel headers from an older kernel. (although I have no idea if it actually runs on 2.4.22 afterwords :) You might want to try using the 2.4.21 headers for those compiles and see if the resulting binaries run on 2.4.22. Another option is you can update the CVS and we omit compiling those two packages until they're fixed (like we were doing with krb5 for awhile). - BS |

Sorry. My Linux development system is Redhat based, and I run the Redhat kernels and utilities. (I.e., I never download and compile my own kernels [though I have recompiled the kernel from Redhat], and I almost never download and compile utilities that were included with Redhat [though I have been known to make exceptions for utilities were I don't want to wait the 6-9 months for Redhat, especially IDEs!].) I don't have the resources to setup a development environment for this. Dean Nedelman TimeLord Consulting |

I did some searching and found a couple other people with the same problem, but I didn't find any solution. It also appears to me that we don't have the latest version of either in our src directory. Have you tried newer versions of iproute2/iputils? I have no idea if that'll help or not, but seems like it's worth a try. ftp://ftp.inr.ac.ru/ip-routing/ - BS |

Which would does everybody think we should use? I think the first 2 are necessary, the third one would be very good on our website. > Also, I am comfortable using two different writing styles - a standard > serious style, or a lighter style which might include comments like "Its a > home firewall! We just need to make clear, that we offer a "serious product". cya Heiko |
