Not bad for a first time at 3d graphics, but then, cubes are not exactly that hard to make :) I'd probably get some better looking textures, and a few more features like something to support the side rails of the wall, like some arch thingies coming out from the wall underneath the railing (I don't know what they're called). You want to be careful about the camera angle, if you notice, the sides are slanted, but they should be straight in order to look right in Dink. Yet, if you turn the angle so the sides of the wall come directly down you'd be looking at the wall as if it were directly in front of you, which just would not look good in the Dink world. I still haven't found a good way to correct that, but I haven't exactly tried real hard. Also, if you want to add damage to the walls make sure the cubes have a good number of polygon divisions so you can make breaks in the wall with relative ease (you can't break a cube with no internal divisions!). Unless of course you want to draw the damage on the wall in 2d when it wouldn't matter. And lastly, if you're just going to show us sample images to look at please send them as jpegs or something smaller in size than a bitmap. Sorry, but I only have 2mgs of space on this hotmail account :P -Striker (One more thing, I just had a disturbing thought; if my e-mail ever fills up, and someone posts a message on the ddmodd list, hotmail will return that message to its sender... which will send the message back to everyone else, including me... creating an endless loop of e-mails. As you can see, this would suck. Hopefully it will never happen, unless I get spammed by a virus with 200k attachments... again.) >ok, this is my idea for a wall thing, probably the main city wall. what >do you guys think?? they still need "features" added, things like battle >damage, fire damage, etc. etc. etc. but i'd like to ask someone else to >do that. ok, this is my idea for a wall thing, probably the main city wall. what do you guys think?? they still need "features" added, things like battle damage, fire damage, etc. etc. etc. but i'd like to ask someone else to do that. My idea is that for each of the 4 directions, I'd like to have 2-3 normal ones, but with some damage, 2-3 damaged ones (maybe partly crumbling?, and 1-2 really broken ones (just a pile of rubble). the former of the above should be easy to do, as all it requires is MSpaint, and a bit of practise. the damaged ones would be a little harder, and the final ones would probably require a complete overhaul of the graphics.. but yeah... any ideas?? i thought maybe Glenn could do this... that is, if you have any spare time :-) so yeah, after recieving all your comments on this model, ill begin to produce the 4 directions, and ill post them to teh list, and to teh CVS as well. thanks. -- The software required Win95 or better, so I installed Linux. I prefer Anim8or to blender. It's simpler, but more effective in my opinion. It has a better, more intuitive interface (man, I hate the blender interface... I keep clicking, but nothing's happening! Hmm... What mode am I in? Oh, squiggly line; yeah, I think I need to switch to amorphous blob... maybe.), can process far more polygons at a more efficient rate, and, of course, animation is a breeze (though it can be somewhat stilted at times). ok, heres what i have done tonight. it will probably end up being a section of wall for some area or another. it is unfinished. the textures need more work, the lighting needs to be done properly, and the camera angle needs to be positioned correctly. Then i need to render it on high quality, and then convert it to the dink palette. bearing all the above in mind, what do you think?? the overall shape will probably change over time...hmmmm.... -- The software required Win95 or better, so I installed Linux. ok, the new artist is going to work on some 2d stuff for us, probably the intro screen and stuff first. also, ive been trying to learn blender. its actually quite powerfull once you get to know how to use it properly, but unfortunately, i have not yet the skill to make a simple house (i did, but it looked crap, and then i accidentally deleted the roof, and i couldn't find an undo button). so anyway, i thought i might start to make the walls.. walls are easy, right?? hmmmm... so yeah, what i want to know is, if i just produce a finished picture in a bitmap form, could i ask someone else to convert it into the proper dink palette?? i dont have the tools here, and dont know how anyways :-) sooo... is that cool with everyone?? ill post my first creation here within a couple of days, so i can get some comments and start over again :-) (i'm still pretty bad with blender. its pretty cool though. i seriously suggest downloading it (its free!), and some tuts.. i have a good URL for the tuts if anyone wants them. -- Thomi Richards th...@im... http://thomi.imail.net.nz/ Thomi Richards, th...@im... |
