Hi, all friends
I made a update to cygnome-1.4 package repository. Perhaps this update
perhaps is the final one. As we're heading to GNOME2, it seems that
there's nothing more we want to do with it.
This time there isn't too many new package release(except gvim-6.2 and
a little change to startgnome). I just re-uploaded some packages to the
installation repository (http://cygnome.sourceforge.net/install).
These packages were released on the project's Files page
but Due to some reason (e.g some packages are too big) was no uploaded
to repository, thus kept not available for direct access from Cygwin setup.... read more
We have gtk+-1.2.10 rebuilt, this time X_LOCALE are forced.
Also the Ximian's enhancement for the file selector (navigation buttons for $HOME, ~/.gnome-desktop, ~/Documents) is merged in.
Sylpheed-claws updated to new main upstream release.
As aspell now is a official cygwin package, this time we enabled aspell support.
If you're still using cygwin-1.3 series, you can use the package we provided,
it's just a rebuild on cygwin-1.3.
And widechar support issue is fixed in the Cygwin port.... read more
Long time to have any news.
This time there are several applications are updated to the latest version:
dillo updated to 0.7.3
gnome-commander updated to 1.0.1
gtktalog updated to 1.0.3
sylpheed-claws updated to 0.9.3 (now iconset themes packages are included)
After a long and hard built, we've got nearly all GNOME 2.2.1 packages built and run on cygwin,
and included newly XFree86 packages freetype 2.1.3, fontconfig 2.1, Xft 2.0.1.
They are glib2, GTK+2, atk, pango, linc, ORBit2, bonobo-activation, etc... about all the packages of base
GNOME 2.2.1 desktop (get the sources from http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/desktop/2.2/2.2.1/sources/\).
We also get metacity window manager and nautilus file manager to work, and some applications like gaim, gedit, ggv, etc.
Well, there are so many of bugs :-( and not stable yet, but, the GNOME 2.2 on cygwin is ready to run!... read more

As to I know, it was on Apr 1, 2002, Steven O'Brien published his work
on porting GNOME to Cygwin in the DLL approach on the cygwin.com homepage,
so Happy anniversary, Cygwin GNOME!
With Steven's great work (and some others), the GNOME Desktop came to Cygwin,
and with his great efforts, Cygwin GNOME becomes more stable and fast.
Thank you, Steven!
And we're moving toward GNOME 2.x now.
It was registered as a new project: cygnome2.

I've built and uploaded gcvs-1.0a7 for Cygwin GNOME.
The gcvs package contains an interface for cvs written in C++ using
gtk+. It contains a version of cvs modified for communication
purposes with gcvs. gcvs is part of a bigger project named CvsGui
which provides several graphical clients on Mac and Windows as well.
Built on cygwin-1.3.20, with gcc-3.2-3, binutils-20021107
and Cygwin GNOME 1.4 Beta2.

I've upgraded glimmer to 1.2.1.
Glimmer is a simple code editor for use with just about any programming
language. It is still in the development stages, but is fairly useful
as a C/C++ editor with all the frills.
There're two binary available this time.
Version 1.2.1-1 is built without python support, while 1.2.1-2 do.
Note that different from version 1.0.1, latest version of glimmer
requires you have PyGTK installed if you want the python scripting support.
Thus you need to install the gnome-python package if you want to use the 1.2.1-2
release. ... read more
I've just made http://cygnome.sourceforge.net/install browerable.
You can download the packages there.
Maybe a good news for those friends having problems using Cygwin setup to download packages,
or those just unwilling to use Cygwin setup.
And there is a list for all files:
The updated version of some core GNOME desktop applications are uploaded to the SourceForge File List page.
Note that they are built on Cygwin GNOME 1.4 Beta2 libraries.
Perhaps you need to upgraded your GNOME libraries.
Now, I proudly announce the beta2 release of Cygwin GNOME 1.4 binary packages!
As suggested by Steven O'Brien, this is a totolly rebuild of nearly all the GNOM
E libraries on latest Cygwin net release,
and most of the core desktop applications are upgraded to the latest version.
I tested it on my P3 800MHz PC with 192M RAM, I'm satisfied the the stablity
and preformance, there are great improvements compared to the 1.4beta1 release! ... read more
We're upgrading our package baseline to the latest Cygwin net release
(cygwin-1.3.20, gcc-3.2, binutils-20021107, etc) and rebuilding all the core packages.
As we need more time to test, we put off the 'release date'.
According to the result of the tests already performed, we have seen big improments in the stablity, performance and usability.
And this time we'll make these packages available from Cygwin setup first.
The introduction of package startgnome would create the desktop shortcut 'Cygwin GNOME' for you automaticly, you can start GNOME from a click!... read more
I've ported Eye Of Gnome to Cygwin GNOME.
Eye of Gnome is an image viewer program which is meant to be
a fast and functional image viewer as well as an image cataloging program.
Version 0.6 is the last version of GNOME 1.x.
Note that it needs bonobo to work.
Upgrading bonobo to the 1.0.22 release is recommended.

I've just uploaded the new release of some core GNOME libraries: ORBit, oaf and GConf.
They are built with Steven O'Brien's latest patch (published on Mar 04 )
The new patches "introduced vfork() in place of fork()
whereever possible to improve performance."
And "An important bug fix in ORBit means that all capplets
now run correctly without crashing on exit."

We're trying to make CyGNOME installable via the Cygwin setup.exe and we've got a few scores.
At present, it is an experimental feature,
and only the core GNOME libraries are available.
Once we find it stable, we would add more packages.
(And due to space limit on the website, we can't promise to provide all packages
available in the way.)

I've rebuilt gnome-libs-1.4.2 with Steven O'Brien's new patch published on March 6th, and uploaded to the download list.
The main change in the new patch is fork()->vfork().
This release is also built with _Xsetlocale() rathan orignal setlocale().
as cygwin lacks good support for i18n in its own setlocale().
Thus I resorted to XFree86's _Xsetlocale().
(Applications that use gtk_set_locale() or gnome_init() now have right locale.
But not those who call setlocale() directly.) ... read more

Cookies support is enabled in the new release of dillo-0.6.6.
I used POSIX file lock to replace the orignal lockf() call.

I'v uploaded the Cygwin port of GIMP(http://www.gimp.org/), based X-Window system, version 1.2.3, include binary package and patches.
