Update: I'm still using the SysRescCD/Clonezilla live CD - and still getting the kernel dumps. I'm able to complete the copy without problems in "no framebuffer" mode Weird thing is, I looked around for /var/log/messages - and it's not there.. so I can't really send over a copy of the trace Steven Shiau wrote: > Looks like this is kernel problem. Konstantin, Thanks for your feedback. Anybody else in the mailing list objects this idea ? If not, we will keep Numlock on by default. Thanks. Steven. Hi, We are happy to announce that Clonezilla live (testing) 1.0.11-5 was released. From this version, we switched to use live-initramfs in Clonezilla live, therefore now we have more flexibility. Some improvement and bugs fixed: - Packages xfsdump and lscpi were added. - New kernel from EtchAndAHalf (2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-486) is used now. Therefore more hardware is supported. - Bug fixed: When swap partitions number > 2, and in /dev/[hs]d10 or more, restorartion failed. Thanks to frankiehung for reporting this bug. - Since live-initramfs instead of casper is used. The auto login account now is 'user', and the password is 'live'. No password for root. - For live USB, no more prompt to eject boot media before rebooting or halting. Enjoy! -- Steven Shiau <steven _at_ nchc org tw> <steven _at_ stevenshiau org> National Center for High-performance Computing, Taiwan. http://www.nchc.org.tw Public Key Server PGP Key ID: 9762755A Fingerprint -- A2A1 08B7 C22C 3D06 34DB F4BC 08B3 E3D7 9762 755A |

Numpad button changes a part of the keyboard into a numpad - and numlock switches between the numpad modes. In other words, enabling numlock is perfectly safe. I'm not sure about older laptops, though. |

Dear all, In the latest stable Clonezilla live (1.0.10-8), the Numlock is turned on by default. However, maybe it's not a good idea. For a normal desktop PC, the keyboard comes with extra number pad. However, in laptop, this is not true. Therefore if numlock is on, people will confuse when typing alphabets in laptop keyboard. Therefore, how do you all think about this ? Is it a good idea to turn on Numlock by default ? This release is focus on bugs fixed, and an improvement about image size reduced: - Manpages and doc files of system commands were removed since most of the time we do not need that. Those doc can be easily found in any GNU/Linux box. - Package encfs was added. - Numlock is turned on by default. - An option to input ssh port number was added for sshfs mouting. - Bug fixed: Two or more disks were not saved when using savedisk option (https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4861197). Thanks to Francisco Gonzalez and Rob Wynne for reporting this bug. - Bug fixed: swappt-*.info was not converted by cnvt-ocs-dev. - Some minor updates. -- Steven Shiau <steven _at_ nchc org tw> <steven _at_ stevenshiau org> National Center for High-performance Computing, Taiwan. http://www.nchc.org.tw Public Key Server PGP Key ID: 1024D/9762755A Fingerprint: A2A1 08B7 C22C 3D06 34DB F4BC 08B3 E3D7 9762 755A |

Bradley, When you said "identical", are you sure the CHS (Cylinder, Head, Sector) numbers are exactly the same ? If the harddrive is different brand, model, maybe this is not true. Clonezilla is based on Linux, and sometimes the kernel will "explain" them with different numbers even the size is the same (but the models, brands are different). If the target disk is only slightly smaller, even it's 1 KB size smaller, it will fail. You have to make sure the size is equal or larger then the source disk. One thing you can try is to check "-e" to force to use the CHS value from the source disk. Steven. Hi all I would be interested in creating an auto backup CD. By saying "auto backup CD", I mean a CD which upon system start-up would 1. mount a shh share to /home/partimag 2. backup my system disk (/dev/sda) to an image file of a given name 3. create a restore DVD using this image I was thinking to modify /etc/ocs/ocs-live.conf in this way ocs_live_run="/opt/drbl/sbin/ocs-sr" ocs_live_extra_param="-b -c -e -z2 -q2 -o0 -o1 savedisk MY_IMAGE sda" ocs_live_keymap="NONE" ocs_live_batch="yes" DIA="whiptail" Furthermore, I will use prerun to mount /home/partimag through ssh postrun to burn the image file to DVD Do you think such an arrangement would work? -- Regards Spiros -- gpg key URL: http://members.hellug.gr/sng/gpg-kde-el.html |

Dear all, Clonezilla live 1.0.9-19 (stable) is available now. This release is a bug fixed one with some minor updates. - Bug fixed: memtest, freedos and etherboot were not listed in syslinux boot - Bug fixed: cciss RAID device restoration was broken. - Bug fixed: When "ocs-iso -s" or "ocs-live-dev -c -s" was run in Clonezilla live, etherboot and freedos image were not copied. Thanks to Spiros Georgaras. menu in clonezilla live zip file. - Now syslinux related files are in /syslinux/. - sdparm was added in Clonezilla live. - Newer syslinux.exe is used now. Makeboot.exe is replaced by makeboot.sh so that USB flash drive will boot successfully with kernel under /casper/. - Package zip and unzip were added. - partclone 0.0.6 is used now so clone.fat is available. - More descriptions were added in the boot menu. - An option for VGA mode 640x480 was added so that it's easier for some PC, e.g. Asus Eee PC, to backup and restore in Chinese environment. -- Steven Shiau <steven _at_ nchc org tw> <steven _at_ stevenshiau org> National Center for High-performance Computing, Taiwan. http://www.nchc.org.tw Public Key Server PGP Key ID: 9762755A Fingerprint -- A2A1 08B7 C22C 3D06 34DB F4BC 08B3 E3D7 9762 755A |

Looks like this is kernel problem. Or maybe you can try to use experimental, ubuntu-base clonezilla live, which comes with newer kernel 2.6.24: http://clonezilla.sourceforge.net/download/sourceforge/ Steven. Just to make things clear; the version Konstantin refers to is 1.0.9-10 I have used Clonezilla Live 1.0.9-10 for both Clonezilla-SysRescCD 2.2.0 (the version Konstantin uses) and Clonezilla-SysRescCD 2.3.0 (new version released just today) The file Clonezilla-Live-Version contains clonezilla-live-20080221 for 2.2.0 clonezilla-live-20080307 for 2.3.0 As I understand it, this has to do with repacking. I believe that while repacking, the ISO file creation script (ocs-iso) modifies this file, adding the ISO creation date to it, so that it's clear that this is not the original Clonezilla Live CD. This is just my guess, but it makes sense, since the file actually does contain the ISO creation date. Steven can you confirm this? -- Regards Spiros -- gpg key URL: http://members.hellug.gr/sng/gpg-kde-el.html |

Hi, I seem to have a problem that appears when I use the latest sysrescue/clonezilla live CD (clonezilla version clonezilla-live-20080221) I'm copying ~200GB of data between 500G hard drives. The file systems are ext2, linux swap, and ext3. About 30% through the process (although sometimes near the end), it appears to freeze and if I press any key on the keyboard, dumps a bunch of errors (from kernel), and continues very slowly. I tried copying on the same hardware using Gparted/Clonezilla CD with older version of clonezilla (clonezilla-live-1.0.3-18), and everything works great. Is this a known bug? |

Thanks - I'll try it with one of the new versions, but I was hoping someone could explain the difference between booting from a small flash device and a larger external drive. You can get external 2.5" form USB drives up to 320 gb now that run from USB power, so it might be handy to know how to boot anything from them. -- Les Mikesell les...@gm... |

Clonezilla live 1.0.9-18 (testing) and 20080306b-hardy (experimental) were released. In the releases: - In experimental branch, Ubuntu hardy (8.04) alpha 5 is used. Kernel is 2.6.24-11. Testing branch is based on Debian etch with kernel 2.6.22. Another approach is to use the testing/unstable clonezilla live: http://clonezilla.sourceforge.net/download/nchc/testing/ http://clonezilla.sourceforge.net/download/nchc/experimental/ 1.0.9-18 or 20080306b-hardy. And run makeboot.bat in windows to make your usb flash drive bootable. Those releases contains the latest syslinux (3.62) and it supports kernel in the subdirectory. WARNING!: ***DO NOT RUN*** makeboot.bat from your local hard drive! It should only be run from your USB flash drive. Executing it incorrectly could cause your MS windows not to boot!!! If you want to use syslinux on linux to make your usb flash drive bootable, remember to use syslinux 3.35 or later. Steven. Before doing anything else, you must make sure your BIOS supports booting from USB. If this is not the case, anything else would be useless... I'd say the correct procedure would be 1. copy all files from CD to USB 2. move all files from dir isolinux to the root dir of the USB 3. move all files from dir casper to the root dir of the USB 4. create syslinux.cfg on the root dir of the USB run the command: sed 's|/casper/||' isolinux.cfg > syslinux.cfg 5. make your USB bootable using syslinux syslinux /dev/sda4 assuming your USB device is /dev/sda4 I have just performed this procedure and it woks (tested it with qemu) Hope this helps -- Regards Spiros -- gpg key URL: http://members.hellug.gr/sng/gpg-kde-el.html |
