To anybody still interested in ClanMecha, I'm really sorry about the lack of updates during the past few months. For those of you who didn't know, this is my first year in college, at Carnegie Mellon University (go Tartans!). As any new college student, I've been spending quite a bit of time getting acclimated to the new environment. The real reason for my lack of updates though is my lack of a working computer since I've gotten here. The explanation for this is a little lengthy for this e-mail, but I can say that it involved an idle CPU temperature of 136 degrees fahrenheit, 3 consecutive non-working hard drives, and Asus's lack of a technical support number in the United States. My (hopefully) working computer is supposed to arrive in the mail here in a few days, and students here have the week of Thanksgiving off. I assure you that I've got quite a few ideas of how to fix the crashes in the CVS version, and I'm hoping to try to implement these during the break. -- Neil Halelamien (ns...@an... or fle...@us...) This is an announcement of ClanMecha 0.1.3, "The little Kodama that could" Some of the changes since 0.1.2: * Revamped collision detection (again) by adding a DisplacementGrid, resulting in a fairly large performance boost * Slowed down the minimum frame time to compensate for the performance boost resulting from the DisplacementGrid * Altered the SunderBlast to make only one sound at a time instead of multiple; hopefully this will prevent some crashes * Added a maximum mech velocity * Altered mech animation to make it actually stop when it should stop ClanMecha is also in need of game designers/programmers. Almost 3 months after the release of ClanMecha 0.1.0, ClanMecha 0.1.1 has finally been released! Some of the changes since 0.1.0: * an autoconf-generated Makefile, hopefully allowing users -besides- the author to compile and run ClanMecha * a complete workover of the game's internals to rely less on class inheritance and more on object composition, hopefully making it easier to extend the codebase * particle-based explosions * improved graphics, including a new mecha sprite * temporarily replaced the Larpa weapon with a particle-based flamer * improved drawing of tiled sprites, resulting in much better looking walls Note that the collision detection algorithm hasn't been optimized yet, so a fast processor is recommended.
