Hello Chix Developers. I was wondering if there is any plan in the works to adapt Chix to be supported in Pidgin 2.2.1, which is the latest version of Gaim being distributed with Ubuntu. Thanks. Dylan Doxey San Diego, CA |

Hi John, I'll try and make a pre-release deb package today/tonight. What version of gaim are you using? xevuz On 7/21/07, John Mata <jo...@my...> wrote: > Hello, > > I am new to Ubuntu [very happy to have moved from Windows], and I am trying > to get Chix running on Gaim. Hello, I am new to Ubuntu [very happy to have moved from Windows], and I am trying to get Chix running on Gaim. I have tried and tried to follow a few procedures I have found on the web. Do you have some sort of procedure I can follow? Regards, John Mata |

Hi All, I'll try and configure the nighty cvs tarballs. There's still some minor bugs I have to fix that's why I haven't updated the deb and tar files. xevuz On 7/20/07, でぃらん <hyp...@do...> wrote: > Hello Paul, > > You're comment is very encouraging. > > Examining the CVS (via the web interface), it appears there has been > an update as of just last week. > But the .gz (and presumably the .deb) files are still a couple of years old. > > I've attempted the anonymous login on cvs, but it hangs and times out > after entering the empty password. > > I respect that the crew is busy. > Perhaps someone has time to do one of the following: > * update the .deb files on sourceforge > * update the .tar.gz files on sourceforge > * resolve issue with cvs login > > Thanks! > > Dylan Doxey > San Diego, CA > > P.S. Hello Paul, You're comment is very encouraging. Examining the CVS (via the web interface), it appears there has been an update as of just last week. But the .gz (and presumably the .deb) files are still a couple of years old. I've attempted the anonymous login on cvs, but it hangs and times out after entering the empty password. I respect that the crew is busy. Perhaps someone has time to do one of the following: * update the .deb files on sourceforge * update the .tar.gz files on sourceforge * resolve issue with cvs login Thanks! Dylan Doxey San Diego, CA P.S. Anyone whose wife has been denied access to her Chikka friends back home might sympathize with my interest. > Message: 2 > Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2007 20:23:46 +0800 > From: "Paul Mulligan" <x....@gm...> > Subject: Re: [Chix-devel] Chix on Gaim 2.x ( Pidgin ) > To: Chi...@li... > Message-ID: > <c61...@ma...> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed > > its on cvs at the moment. im using it with pidgin. > > On 7/19/07, Dylan Doxey <dyl...@gm...> wrote: > > Hello, > > > > I've been attempting to get Chix running on Ubuntu Feisty. > > It appears that Chix is not compatible with the latest release of Gaim. > > > > Is this on the development agenda? > > Or is there something I'm unaware of? > > > > Dylan > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express > > Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take > > control of your XML. Hello, I've been attempting to get Chix running on Ubuntu Feisty. It appears that Chix is not compatible with the latest release of Gaim. Is this on the development agenda? Or is there something I'm unaware of? Dylan |

hi joset, yes, there are improvements but not visible on the users point of view. mainly dealing with how the buddy is searched. it should be much faster now. the cvs tree at sourceforge.net is currently not synced with my local cvs tree. ill do this when i have more time. the only feature that i know of thats missing is MMS. no standalone GUI at this point. there was more than a year ago when chix was a standalone app using ncurses before it became a library. if you or someone would like to do a GUI using GTK+, QT, or even EFL (very pretty :) please feel free to do so. i would definitely include it in the main tree. xevuz On 2/17/06, Joset Anthony Zamora <era...@ya...> wrote: > improvements? any? how about a standalone GUI? > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Tired of spam? dang, i forgot to include the workaround. there are actually two really, but this should suffice in all cases. edit the FEATURES="" line in your /etc/make.conf to include userpriv (this drops the root priviledge when 'emerge' is compiling) e.g. FEATURES="userpriv" and emerge chix again. tidings, - amerei |

ahh, we have already settled that issue. it won't appear anymore in subsequent releases. the error occurs because in chix release version 1, config.sub and ltmain.sh are symlinked to files that are outside the scope of $workdir. gentoo has qualms regarding files that reside outside since it is tantamount to a security risk (as the config.sub symlink can point to anything, say /bin/hackmepls). as for the error in the digest verification, this isnt a libchix/chix_gaim issue at all. remove the stale files in your overlay except the ebuild and issue 'ebuild <ebuildfile> digest again to compute for the new checksum. hope this helps. tidings, - amerei On Wed, 14 Dec 2005 20:10:06 -0800 chi...@li... wrote: > Send Chix-devel mailing list submissions to > chi...@li... > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/chix-devel > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > chi...@li... > > You can reach the person managing the list at > chi...@li... > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of Chix-devel digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. ok.. so i tweaked my build to FEATURES="ccache sandbox" and dropped 'userprivs' --------------------------- ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY --------------------------- LOG FILE = "/var/log/sandbox/sandbox-net-im_-_chix_gaim-1.0.0-1518.log" open_wr: /var/tmp/portage/chix_gaim-1.0.0/work/chix_gaim-1.0.0/config.sub (symlink to /usr/share/libtool/config.sub) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- we have two choices as of now... merge the "real" file config.sub to avoid the creation of a symlink ... which will then lead us to another task of re-generating an updated tarball of chix... or modify the ebuild to work around the sandbox violation... apparently, for gentoo, sandbox violations are a big security risk.... anyone of you experiencing other errors/warnings on your particular distros ?? bring them up now ... tidings, - stef |

tried gaim-1.4.0-r1 last just now actually.... chix_gaim 1 works fine on it... but you people prolly already know that. :D i've also encountered a problem with the gentoo ebuild recently ------------- * econf: updating chix_gaim-1.0.0/config.sub with /usr/share/gnuconfig/config.sub cp: cannot create regular file `/var/tmp/portage/chix_gaim-1.0.0/work/chix_gaim-1.0.0/config.sub': Permission denied ------------- still dont know what causes the error tho... i'll test it with sandbox and try dropping userprivs to test it. how's everyone been doing ?? got two math and two cs subjects this semester and those four have been draining my time miserably.. :(( tidings, - stef |
