What languages will UHI be adding to Bodington? And what are the timescales? How much work do we envisage it being to do a basic translation - I guess - how many words are we looking at? Stuart seems to think we could get some grad students here to do some translations (for suitable remuneration). I guess we need to draw up a target list: - Spanish - portugese - Italian - german - french - polish - Finnish - Swedish - Norwegian - danish - Chinese, what dialects? <- Ning Ning- a chance to earn some extra money!? - gaelic - welsh (Alun said he'd look into this) - Indian languages ?? | > machine to machine shibbing | did he say what he meant by that? Machine calls web service on behalf of user (say) to get data. Say bod calls lusid to get adam's LIP records and then displays in a logbook. At least that's what I take it to mean. So you don't use browser post but you do need to know whether VLE users is AuthZ'd to see the records. This will be used in ASK (I think). I thought I'd post this news here rather than in 2 separate bits! Saw Mark 'Stubbsy' Stubbs yesterday who said that they are thinking of using Bod as the authN engine for their TRIX project (sp?). I can't find anything about this project probably because I don't know how to spell it! I also harangued Francis Lowry from Nottingham Trent telling him that they should use GuanXi as their shibboleth solution. This will be for the Nottingham universities Passport http://www.cityofnottinghampassport.com/what_is.htm. I will point him to the GX list later on today - I rather foolishly promised him that we (ie you) would help him if he got stuck trying to use GX. I think that they were already looking at GuanXi but my friendly approach made him more confident. I also badgered Serge Ravet (chief exec of Eifel - Euro institute for e-learning - http://www.eife-l.org/eifel) about GuanXi (and of course gave him a t-shirt). He was particularly interested and asked when we were going to look at machine to machine shibbing. He sounds like an influential guy and we could definitely gain some friends there. Do we have an estimate of when this work will start? I guess it's part of ASK work; it would be nice to tell him our timeline. I am thinking about deleting the generated folder in the Bodington webapp. As far as I can see this folder is used for caching information that is all pulled from the database if it doesn't exist. For example the list of uploaded files gets put into a file called menu.xml which is then used for the display but if the menu.xml is missing it is just generated again from information in the database. As a side note if the files in this directory really are temporary should they be stored in the servlet temp directory? Am I going to loose anything if I delete this folder? -- +--Matthew Buckett-----------------------------------------+ | VLE Developer, Learning Technologies Group | | Tel: +44 (0) 1865 283660 http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ | +------------Computing Services, University of Oxford------+ |
