The Bitpim project seems to be dead, but one possibility is the local time setting of your computer. Is your computer set to local time as UTC -9, which would be Alaska time? ----- Original Message ----- From: Linz To: bit...@li... Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2011 11:59 AM Subject: [BitPim-user] Date/time discrepancy with Samsung SCH-A950 I recently had to examine an SCH-A950. I first used a Cellebrite UFED to extract the Call Log and Contact entries and used BitPim to extract the Call Log and SMS entries. Since the Call Log was common to both, I compared the date/time stamps to validate the data extracted by each tool. I found a difference of exactly 5 hours. My first thought was that BitPim was reporting in local time and the UFED was reporting in UTC. I conpared the time stamps to what was presented on the phone's display and found the UFED was actually reporting the correct local time and BitPim was reporting 5 hours earlier than local time (UTC - 9:00). I checked the hex for the reported time and found it to convert to UTC (as I expected). Why would BitPim subtact 9 hours from the stored UTC time stamp? I don't think it does. I just got one and had great hopes that it would, but it doesn't for me. The best I can do is drag MP3 files to it via Windows Explorer. I can't get my Mac to mount it either. Does anyone on this list know of a developer who might be working on making this happen? I don't have time to write the code myself but could help in testing. dragonslayer, I've had a lot of problems using BitPim with my Verizon LG VX-9200 (env3), which may be a similar phone. I've settled on using version 1.07.20091103 - Test, as it seems to work best. I was using LGUSBModemDriver_WHQL_Eng_Ver_4.8.1, but I doubt that makes much difference. I'd recommend attempting to read one type of data at a time, to isolate the problem. From your log it looks like it is the address book (contacts) that is giving you trouble. You may have to eschew the use of contact groups and other capabilities which go beyond what Bitpim understands. Most of my purpose in using BitPim was to load my new env3 with contacts saved from my older phone, so I didn't test the reading part too much. -- Shal At 03:36 PM 2/14/2011, you wrote: >I am running Windows XP on a very stable system. I am running BitPim 1.0.7 - Official on Win XP/SP3. My phone is an LG Chocolate VX-8500 (Black), firmware version T85VZV04. The USB cable is an LG CLGIF13-4.5. All function appear to operate correctly except the Phonebook. On any phonebook operation, the phone screen displays "373-392" repeatedly, then BitPim says "Error: Phonebook busy on phone The phonebook is busy on your phone. Exit back to the main screen and then repeat the operation." Last several lines of Log below: 15:42:34.049 LG-VX8500: Fundamentals retrieved 15:42:34.049 LG-VX8500: Reading speed dials 15:42:34.144 LG-VX8500: Getting file contents 'pim/pbspeed.dat' 15:42:34.362 LG-VX8500: Now in brew mode 15:42:34.362 LG-VX8500: Reading number of phonebook entries 15:42:34.424 LG-VX8500: Now in phonebook mode 15:42:34.565 LG-VX8500: There are 12 entries 15:42:34.862 Error: Phonebook busy on phone The phonebook is busy on your phone. Exit back to the main screen and then repeat the operation. The point is that I'm ALREADY AT the main screen, and it does not appear to matter what screen I'm at, nor whether the phone slide is up or down. Two contacts transfer (no particular order) and then the phone book operation quits. I've checked various SourceForge and BitPim archives without success. Any help/insight welcome. |

I'm transferring phonebooks between two Samsung SPH-A900's using a USB cable (Samsung OEM) and BitPim 1.0.7 running on Windows XP. Copying the phonebook from the old phone works just fine, but uploading it to the new phone results in: 1) the first phone number, as shown in BitPim, doesn't appear on the new phone, 2) contacts with only one phone number don't show up on the phone at all, and 3) the email field isn't showing up on the new phone (and contacts with only one phone number + email don't show up). The log shows all of the phonebook entires being transferred, and I'm getting no errors. On at least one occasion (perhaps all), the phone rebooted at the end of the transfer: BitPim's status bar reported transferring the last name (matching the last log entry), hung there, no log entries for several seconds, then disconnect and detection log events. Specific steps: download phonebook from old phone (replacing entires in BitPim), connect new phone, upload (replacing entries in new phone). This appears to be repeatable. I welcome your wisdom. -- Sam |

I am running Windows XP on a very stable system. Bitpim v 1.0.7 Official is installed. LG driver LGUSBModemDriver_Eng_WHQL_Ver_4.9.4 is installed. Bitpim recongizes my phone no problem, but when trying to read the data from it, I get the error log that I have posted below. It does not retrieve any data whatsoever. I have tried reinstalling the driver, changing usb ports, rebooting (obviously), and pretty much anything that I could think of, including reading the help section of bitpim of course. I have not been able to find an answer to my problem via searching, and any help would be appreciated. I've used bitpim for a number of years with my Samsung A-930 (Verizon) phone very successfully. I recently obtained a new laptop and installed the Samsung USB drivers and bitpim 1.0.7. Attempting to pull phone-book entries from the phone results in a number of apparent read failures in the log: 9:48:03.654 SCH-A930: Getting file contents 'pb/recs_0000' 9:48:03.686 SCH-A930: Failed to read file: pb/recs_0000 9:48:03.686 SCH-A930: stat file pb/recs_0001 9:48:03.686 SCH-A930: Getting file contents 'pb/recs_0001' 9:48:03.717 SCH-A930: Failed to read file: pb/recs_0001 9:48:03.733 SCH-A930: stat file pb/recs_0002 9:48:03.733 SCH-A930: Getting file contents 'pb/recs_0002' 9:48:03.779 SCH-A930: Failed to read file: pb/recs_0002 9:48:03.779 SCH-A930: stat file pb/recs_0003 and the Import Phone Data dialog screen is blank. Hi all, Here is my setup: Verizon Samsung SCH-U740 BitPim1.0.7 Mac OS X 10.6.6 USB Connection I have successfully connected my phone to BitPim. I have pulled both ringtones and images off the phone into BitPim. My problem is that when I try to pull my Phonebook, it does not pull anything. The screen comes up to confirm the old and new phonebook data, but it is blank. I get no specific error message. As I am sure we users of the Env3 have found that Bitpim will copy your address book from your phone to the computer but not back. I recently had to replace mine under warranty and have a new and old Env3. I took and chance and did the following and it worked perfectly AND I could also add additional contacts after the process: 1. On your c: drive or desktop create a temp folder name whatever you want. 2. Attach your phone 3. Open BitPim 4. Ok through recognition of your phone 5. Select Data on your phone 6. On the menu tree on the left select FILE SYSTEM 7. Click the "+" sign next to the folder and "/" mark in the middle window pane (this will take some time be patient) 8. In the files system tree look for a folder called "pim" (no quotes) 9. Click once on it. 10. To the right you will see files. 11. Right click on each the files that start with "pb" (no quotes) individually (no multiselect)and click save 12. Save each of these files to your folder location 13. Lastly find record_id.dat, right click and save to same location 14. Unplug your old phone and plug in your new phone 15. Repeat steps 2-8 16. Find the same files that you have in your folder in the new phones file system. 17. Right click on the files in Bitpim and select "Overwrite" 18. A files select dialog will open, navigate to your folder and find the same named file and select it and click open. 19. Give the file time to be copied to the new phone and repeat steps 16-18 for all files in your folder 20. Once that is completed turn off your phone and turn it back on. VOILA! You now have your contacts. The group data file is copied as well so you should have your groups. I don't use them so I am not completely sure. This process is provided "as is" and I am not personally responsible for the individual outcomes. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. This worked for me and my Env3 phones and I would not suggest testing on cross platform (i.e. Voyager phonebook to a Env3 phonebook etc.) Only Env3 to Env3. Hope this helps as I was beating my head against the wall and really did't want to go back to Verizon just to have my contacts moved over since the replacement was mailed to my house. First, I would like to thank you for replying to my request for help. I felt pretty much alone. It turns out that just before I got your message I fixed my problem. I did it by reloading the BitPim software. I tried once to reload over the old copy of BitPim - that didn't work. I didn't want to erase the old copy for fear of losing my data. I was successful when I loaded BitPim into a Temp file I created. When the software was loaded my data appeared, so I erased the old and loaded a new copy. PS - I believe that my data is stored in a .pyo file. PYO files are created by software called Python. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dennis Reichel To: bit...@li... Hello, I'm new to BitPim but a great lover of Open Source Software. I am using Version 1.0.7 I am using a regular usb cable that comes with the phone. The end that connects to the phone is a proprietary LG shape, but should still just be usb2.0 The phone is a VX9200 (Env3) I have been able to repeat this error with both the Vista and Win7 OSes. The error report below is for Win7 (I don't believe there's a difference in messages) It appears to freeze on the sms/inbox/inbox0001.dat file. What steps I took. I just installed BitPim, as well as LGE usb modem drivers, then click get phone data. It seems to quit on sms files so as long as you check that box it will die. Is it repeatable? Every time. I guess that's a good thing. What have you tried? Pouting, yelling and prayer. I messed with the settings but these things seemed to make the problem worse (ie the phone doesn't connect). It does not seem to be a connection problem. I did a search in Gmane and found someone with a similar problem. http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.mobile.bitpim.user/10551/match=vx9200 Thank you for your software, it bridges a huge gap between what my phone does, and should do out of the box, Jay Stannard BitPim version: 1.0.7-official An unexpected exception has occurred. Greetings, Phone is detected fine in GUI and CLI but I cannot copy the image directory, regardless of which method I attempt. Which version of BitPim you are using: 1.0.7 What operating system you are using: Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit Which cell phone you are talking to (make and model) LG shine CU720 What cable you are using to talk to the phone: standard USB to phone cable outlined in the documentation for this phone. >From what I understand with the GUI that my machine is running out of memory when this is attempted (thanks to previous posts here) and I will have access to a machine with more than enough memory soon enough. With the CLI, I have the following to report - KeyError: 'size' when attempting to copy files from phone to PC using Command Line Interface. C:\Program Files\BitPim>bitpim "cp phone:/LGAPP/Media/Images/Graphics ." -p com13 Traceback (most recent call last): File "bp.py", line 113, in <module> File "bp_cli.pyo", line 151, in run File "bp_cli.pyo", line 341, in cp File "bp_cli.pyo", line 253, in _cpfromphone File "bp_cli.pyo", line 230, in _cpfilefromphone File "phones\com_lg.pyo", line 1703, in _filefunc File "phones\com_brew.pyo", line 987, in getfilecontents KeyError: 'size' Regards, Will |

The Bluetooth preference panel shows the phone is there but Not Connected. If I select the phone options to send a card it connects but then it drops the connection and that has nothing to do with bitpim. > > It has been so long since I did this I don't really have any idea what to do! Trial-and-error. I kept fiddling with things until I was able to get it to connect. In the end I had to create a new serial port to go with the bluetooth device. Once I did that I was able to connect. It gave me a panel with the phone's owner (me) and I had to click OK; I don't recall that ever happening before. After that it worked okay. I have no idea what has happened in the past several months. I used to have a serial port that bluetooth would use but it must have gotten deleted somewhere along the line. |
