I did try to run as root, but no avail. My bitpim was installed through Synaptic (Ubuntu natty 11.04), so I assume that all the files should be there. However I wonder if the instructions you indicate are up to date and concurrent with the way the installation places the files. For example, there is no /etc/udev/rules.d/60-bitpim.rules, but there is /lib/udev/rules.d/40-bitpim.rules, also there is no /usr/bin/bpudev, but there is /lib/udev/bpudev and there is no "cellusers" group. In any case, I'm wondering: when I plug the phone in, shouldn't I see some port automatically opened in /dev, even without running bitpim? Many thanks for your time. Best regards, Daniel On Thu, 2011-07-21 at 18:10 -0700, D.J. wrote: > Do you have permissions to the device? Have you tried starting bitpim > as su or a normal user? Hello! I'm trying to upload text messages via Bluetooth from my LG VX 5500 (by telling BitPim it's an 8560 per this guy's suggestion<http://www.adrianandgenese.com/blogger/2009/01/28/uploaddownload-ringtones-and-wallpapers-to-your-lg-vx5500-using-bitpim-and-bluetooth>, and because even though BitPim now natively supports 5500, the SMS option is still grayed out) and everything looks gravy until what seems like the end, and then I get an error message (below). Then I try to send the error report and it always "fails to send" that. This sequence happens every time. I tried copying and pasting into google some of these lines and nothing comes up - am I searching the wrong lines? Web/archives didn't turn up anything either. What step should I take next? Have you tried actually modprobing the driver instead of listing the module? As root or su issue: modprobe cdc-acm To check that it's loaded lsmod | grep cdc-acm Good luck. ;-) --- On Tue, 7/19/11, Daniel Senderowicz <da...@Sy...> wrote: From: Daniel Senderowicz <da...@Sy...> Subject: [BitPim-user] connecting to the cdm9950sp/vm4450 To: bit...@li... I set the port to "auto" mode but the programs says that it "failed" detecting the phone. I read that I need to have the module cdc-acm.ko loaded in the kernel. If I do: $ modprobe -l | grep acm y get: kernel/drivers/usb/class/cdc-acm.ko So I do I go from here? Many thanks in advance. Analyzing a Verizon Motorola V3C using BitPim. I can retrieve the phone book entries but not the call logs and the SMS. I can verify that the phone has those but BitPim cannot retrieve those data. I look at the /nvm/seem/syn_messages and it contains several of the messages but not all that I can see on the phone itself. Anyone had this problem before? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. |

The only good thing about iPhones are that they run code natively and are very responsive, although I've never used one except for using a friends for a few minutes. It took an antitrust inquiry by Google to get Apple to unrestrict the usage of other languages! The only other smartphone platform with native code is Windows Mobile, AFAIK. Blackberry Playbook has native code finally, but it's a tablet with no keyboard. > ------------------------------ > > Message: 3 > Date: Sat, 11 Jun 2011 07:11:30 -0400 > From: "Lowell Sharrah" <sha...@am...> > Subject: Re: [BitPim-user] LG VX9100 exception error every time I try > to"convert" mp3. > To: <bit...@li...> > Message-ID: <005001cc2828$516750b0$f435f210$@net> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" > > My brother keeps saying that too about Apple. Where can I find the USB drivers for the Sany Vero SCP-3820? I've looked online and turned up nothing that works. Can't even try accessing the phone with BitPim until I have some sort of driver for XP, or Vista or if I must, Windows 7. The phone only has 11 megs free RAM out of the box and it can't transfer photos by Bluetooth. No memory card slot on it. |

Ryan, I can't speak for the LGIP-430N, but my sad experience with the LG VX-8500 might be instructive. For my VX-8500, I found that most of the OEM cables were "Power Only" and wouldn't transfer data. CHECK THE CABLE on a known (other) device to be sure that it's transferring data. I never did get Bitpim to work and finally traded the phone in on a Droid. Happy now! BTW, if the LGIP-430N takes an SD card (mine took the micro), you might be able to xfer the photos that way. Best of luck. As Gregg said, the files are in the firmware. Extracting the stock ringtones won't be easy, even if there is an easy way to get a firmware image. Your best bet may be just to use a mic to record the ringtones as the phone plays them. I found an LG update tool at http://www.lg.com/us/support/product/support-product-profile-mobile-redux.jsp?customerModelCode=LGLX600&matchedModelCode=1000007801&searchEngineModelCode=LX600%20Black&initialTab=documents&targetPage=support-product-profile <http://www.lg.com/us/support/product/support-product-profile-mobile-redux.jsp?customerModelCode=LGLX600&matchedModelCode=1000007801&searchEngineModelCode=LX600%20Black&initialTab=documents&targetPage=support-product-profile>The problem is that I seriously doubt it has a firmware image in the util. So the first problem would be getting the app to DL the image and find it before the program could delete it (if it will even download the update at all if it determines your phone is up to date). Then there is the problem of finding the ringtones in that file. Based on a quick look online, there doesn't appear to be that much info on this phone. Most "feature phones" like the LG Lotus (AKA LX-600) have their stock ringtones embedded in their firmware. Some phones, like the LG env2, have some embedded ringtones plus a few pre-loaded into their internal RAM. Those can be deleted but they get restored by doing a factory reset. Most likely the only chance you'll have of getting them is to find a firmware update file and some utility that can extract things from it. Depending on how the firmware updater is packed it may be possible to use a hex editor to find and export the data ranges which are the ringtones. Another possibility is Howard Forums. I found some threads there on extracting stock ringtones from various phones. |

I am a new user to BitPim. At the advice of my fiancée, I downloaded it with the hopes of obtaining access to the stock ringtones on my (no longer activated) Sprint LG Lotus and moving them eventually to an (activated) Verizon LG Ally. I managed to successfully weed through various issues (apparently BitPim needs MSVCP71.dll in order to run-- a dll file which isn't generally present without MS Visual Studio), and even got past the fact that BitPim wasn't finding my phone (swapped out the data cable that came with the lotus for the ally's cable). ... I can now see the FileSystem! However, it appears that support for the Lotus is somewhat limited: there isn't an "easy" button that will simply happily transfer all my little ringtones over... I've weeded through the filesystem, but my luck has thus far been limited. I've found all sorts of interesting critters, from wallpapers to contacts-- but I'm still having no luck finding the ringtones for calls and/or message alerts... Any help to direct me toward finding the call/message alert ringtones would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Katie |

:working: OK guys my wife and i have an LGIP-430N which contains all of my daughters pictures from when she was born etc plus numerous contacts in the phonebook which we fear may be lost forever. I went to radioshack and purchased a micro usb to usb data cable and installed bitpim which is not detecting the phone.. I was wondering if anyone can offer any advice on this situation? Where can i get the windows drivers for our LGIP-430N? Ive tried searching for them and cannot seem to find them. Any help would be greatly appreciated -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/Screen-cracked-on-LGIP-430N-pix-of-daughters-birth-etc-gone---please-help-tp31616222p31616222.html Sent from the Bitpim - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Hi All, I'm new to BitPim, and so far I've got BitPim 1.0.7 detecting my phone just fine on the COM6 port. I'm trying to transfer pictures from my phone to my computer, so I click the 'Get Phone Data' button, check only the 'Wallpapers' check box, and click 'OK'. However, I get the exception pasted below after doing this. I've searched the mailing list several times, and I've learned that the exception is related to a non-ASCII character that BitPim doesn't recognize (in my case, it's a contact group listed as 'Believers\x86h(' ). Other people seem to have solved the problem simply by renaming the contact group; however, I've tried the following steps, but I get the exact same error every time with the string 'Believers\x86h(' : 1) Renamed the contact group 'Believers' to something simple like 'A' 2) Deleted the contact group 'Believers' 3) Deleted all contact groups 4) Deleted all contacts in phone (transferred them to another phone beforehand) 5) Deleted call history 6) Uninstalled and reinstalled program several times 7) Deleted 'My Documents/bitpim' folder in-between installs Is this a cache issue, or am I missing something in my steps to resolve this issue? Any redirection to other helpful threads is welcome, and I sure appreciate the time spent resolving my issue and also the time spent developing this awesome program. :) ~Philip BitPim version: 1.0.7-official An unexpected exception has occurred. Thanx for the response John. All my stuff is set to eastern time. This seems to be more of an issue where BitPim is incorrectly parsing the date/time - at least for this particular phone. I manually parsed the time, using a file system dump from the phone, with MFI's Hex Assistant and got the correct date/time in UTC. I was wondering if there was a bug in BitPim that might account for this. Thanx --- On Thu, 4/14/11, John Shutt <sh...@ya...> wrote: From: John Shutt <sh...@ya...> Subject: Re: [BitPim-user] Date/time discrepancy with Samsung SCH-A950 To: bit...@li... Date: Thursday, April 14, 2011, 1:12 PM The Bitpim project seems to be dead, but one possibility is the local time setting of your computer. Is your computer set to local time as UTC -9, which would be Alaska time? ----- Original Message ----- From: Linz To: bit...@li... Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2011 11:59 AM Subject: [BitPim-user] Date/time discrepancy with Samsung SCH-A950 I recently had to examine an SCH-A950. I first used a Cellebrite UFED to extract the Call Log and Contact entries and used BitPim to extract the Call Log and SMS entries. Since the Call Log was common to both, I compared the date/time stamps to validate the data extracted by each tool. I found a difference of exactly 5 hours. My first thought was that BitPim was reporting in local time and the UFED was reporting in UTC. I conpared the time stamps to what was presented on the phone's display and found the UFED was actually reporting the correct local time and BitPim was reporting 5 hours earlier than local time (UTC - 9:00). I checked the hex for the reported time and found it to convert to UTC (as I expected). Why would BitPim subtact 9 hours from the stored UTC time stamp?
