Hi Michael, I'm fairly aware of how the Remedy API works, since I'm the one who contributed back the code to make it compile with the V6 API, and also the ability to compile against the encryption libraries. I'm not quite sure where you are getting your information about V7, however, because so far in our communications with remedy, they indicate that *all* our user clients will have to be upgraded to the v7 user client, among other things, which would appear to indicate that the V7 api is not backwards compatible. In any case, as it appears no one else has gotten to V7 yet, and Stanford has started a project to migrate to V7, I expect that one of my co workers or I will be contributing the V7 API code back too. ;) --Quanah -- Quanah Gibson-Mount Principal Software Developer ITS/Shared Application Services Stanford University GnuPG Public Key: http://www.stanford.edu/~quanah/pgp.html |

Hi Quanah, The current version of ARSPerl has to be compiled against the AR System 6.3libs. However, most major calls (especially the all the data modification calls: getentry, setentry, etc) will work seamlessly with arsperl against any recent AR System version: 5, 6 or 7. Just as you could use a V6.3 user tool against a v7 server for data modification. Remedy goes through a great deal of effort to make sure that this stuff will be mostly the same across versions. When you will have created an api program for an integration against v5 years ago, it will (most probably) still work on v7. Of course, you will not be able to access v7 new stuff like the new navigation fields using the current ARSPerl but then again I think you will not probably need that. Kind regards, Michiel On 1/5/07, Quanah Gibson-Mount <qu...@st...> wrote: > > > > --On Thursday, December 14, 2006 3:02 PM -0800 Quanah Gibson-Mount > <qu...@st...> wrote: > > > Has anyone started using ARS Perl with Remedy v7 yet? > > Based on the underwhelming number of responses to this, I'm going to guess > no. ;) > > --Quanah > > -- > Quanah Gibson-Mount > Principal Software Developer > ITS/Shared Application Services > Stanford University > GnuPG Public Key: http://www.stanford.edu/~quanah/pgp.html > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Take Surveys. Have anyone a running ARSPerl on Windows, Unix or any other System and ca= n me help to install my arsperl!? Which version of Perl have you, which c= -compiler, which ars API Version? Please help me! Hi all At first, I=B4m a beginner in ARSPerl. I compiled ARSPerl 1.85 on Windows 20000 with ActivePerl and nmake15 using ARS API from ftp.remedy.com.=20 This are the steps I have done: 1. Install all tools and libs, I need.=20 (ActivePerl, Virtual Studio 6.0, namke) 2. Download ARSPerl 1.85 source, extract it to C:\ARSAPI\ARSperl\ 3. Download api from ftp.remedy.com, copy ARS api & libs directories to C= :\ARSAPI\arsapi\ 4. Open Makefile.PL and change the $ARSAPI variable to $ARSAPI =3D q{C:\A= RSAPI\arsapi}; 5. Change version number in Makefile.PL to VERSION =3D 6.3 and save the M= akefile.PL 5. 'perl Makefile.PL' in the MS-DOS command-line (run without errors or w= arnings) 6. 'nmake' in the MS-DOS command-line (lots of errors, see below) _________________________________________________________________________= _ C:\ARSAPI\ARSperl>nmake Microsoft (R) Program Maintenance Utility Version 6.00.8168.0 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1988-1998. That's not exactly a supported platform for Remedy, if I remember. I used to play around at the time with the 4.5 API which was available for download from the remedy web site to use with ARSperl, and I have seen some weird things at the time. But no segfaults. -- Michael "Microwave oven? Whaddya mean, it's a microwave oven? I've been watching Channel 4 on the thing for two weeks." |

Jarl, it doesn't work with any official version up to 1.85, but you can get=20 the latest developer version via CVS from Sourceforge, which implements i= t. I'd advise rather against using the object orientated interface which
hasn't really been maintained with recent versions.
Does the same problem occur if you use the API functions directly, e.g.
like the following?
#-----------------------
my $ctrl = ars_Login( $server, $userid, $passwd );
die $ars_errstr if ! $ctrl;
my $form = 'HPD:HelpDesk';
my %fieldTable = ars_GetFieldTable( $ctrl, $form );
die $ars_errstr if ! %fieldTable;
while( my($key,$val) = each %fieldTable ){
print "$key => $val\n";
}
ars_Logoff( $ctrl );
#-----------------------
This should do essentially the same as your script. I'd also guess that
the segfault doesn't occurs if the "ars_Logoff" is omitted.
Regards,
Thilo Stapff

Hi, =20 I've used ARS to write many Perl CGI scripts for various purposes but I jus= t tried to adapt one of the scripts to use Fast CGI (i.e. to have the CGI = process stay resident in the web server).
