Why does RPM 3.0.5 change the PATH environment variable during install. It leaves the path as is during %prep, %build, and %install, but it changes it during%pre and %post. before running install PATH=./:/home/myuser/etc:/home/myuser/bin:/usr/opt/freeware/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin during %pre and %post steps in install PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin TIA, - Mike |

Hi To change the keyboard language to the system defined value it's necessary to execute the following commands: # cp /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsession /opt/freeware/kde/share/config/kdm # cp /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0 /opt/freeware/kde/share/config/kdm Stephan |

OK... After installation of KDE 2.1-3 the DCE login works fine. The german keyboard settings were activated by copying /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsession to /opt/freeware/kde/share/config/kdm (Did I miss some instructions to use that directory instead of /usr/lib/X11/xdm/ ???) Now I need to enable the special characters: ~ ^ ´ ` Does anyone know if I have to install/use special filesets or if I have to edit this somewhere?? Nevertheless there still seems to be a login problem in this distribution, which comes down to the fact, that HOME is not set any more in startkde and SHELL in set to /usr/bin/sh in startkde. Before in the Xsession script everything is correct. The missing HOME and wrong SHELL leads to a coredump of a kdeinit process. My current workaround is to include a export HOME=$HOME export SHELL=$SHELL in /opt/freeware/kde/share/config/kdm/Xsession before it calls startkde. Hi. After a successfull installation of KDE 2.1 I now have only the english keyboard mapping available when I login as user root. To this point I followed the installation instructions from the web site. Is there anything else to be configured that xdm executes the Xsetup_0 file? When I execute the command xmodmap for the de_DE keyboard manually it solves the situation. Any telnet connection works fine with german keyboard. Okay - now's your chance to use the bug reporting system on the Toolbox project page. Go to http://oss.software.ibm.com/developerworks/projects/aixtoolbox, click on the Bugs tab, and submit a problem report. You'll then get a confirmation request which you need to respond to in order for the bug to transition out of the "Pending" state. Maybe our emacs expert will look into this one before our 5.1 release. Thanks, Marc > > I'm seeing a problem in emacs dired-mode. Sigh. There is a Linux documentation system called 'info'. If you don't have the info package installed, the post-installation script which installs the documentation for info (/sbin/install-info) will fail. You don't actually need it to run gzip. I'm seeing a problem in emacs dired-mode. For files which are old enough that "ls -l" prints the year instead of the time of day, I am unable to manipulate these files in dired-mode. I just get "File no longer exists". I have a feeling it has to do with the format of the date that "ls -l" prints, as it tends to be one column shorter when it is the year (XXXX) versus the time-of-day (XX:XX). I have a slightly older version of emacs (20.4 -vs- 20.7), downloaded from AIX PDSlib (http://aixpdslib.seas.ucla.edu/aixpdslib.html), and it does not exhibit this symptom. Paul |

Some of you have noticed that KDE 2.1 has become visible on the web site. There was a problem in the KDE 2.1 build and another on the web site itself which will get in the way of early adopters. The KDE 2.1 build was performed on an alternate build system which had an additional symlink for libjpeg visible. That symlink was present in an internally available level of libjpeg-6b; unfortunately, that caused KDE to have a dependency on libjpeg.so, which is not available in libjpeg-6b-2. We generated a libjpeg-6b-3 to cover that situation, but the website is still pointing to libjpeg-6b-2. So, there are a couple of workarounds. Download and install the new libjpeg-6b-3: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/RPMS/ppc/libjpeg/libjpeg/libjpeg-6b-3.aix4.3.ppc.rpm rpm -hUv libjpeg-6b-3.aix4.3.ppc.rpm OR: Generate a link as below and use --nodeps when you install the KDE files. There's going to be a freeze on the web site content for a while. We'll continue to make new content available on the FTP site, but it will not be reflected for a while on the web site. bos.rte.tty has a single requisite on the kernels (bos.up and mp 4.3.3.10, I believe), but the kernels unfortunately have LOTS of requisites. If you're bos.up or bos.mp is already at at least 4.3.3.10, then you can apply the single bos.rte.tty update without downloading anything else. I run with 4.3.3.0 with the single X11 APAR to fix the libICE.a problem which you need for KDE. That's the level that I run and that's the level (in general) that we build with. Hi, This sure looks like a similar problem i've had with ssh and rxvt. I opened a problem report with IBM, and got it fixed. the APAR is IY13902. It is an update to bos.rte.tty Check what level this is at on your box. The bug got introduced at sometime around bos.rte.tty level 4.3.3.16 and then fixed again at 4.3.3.27... The problem was that the terminals using BSD-style tty's are allowed to open the same ttypX more than once. best regards, Jesper James On Wed, 14 Mar 2001, Paul Clarke wrote: > I'm seeing some very strange behavior with gnome-terms. > > I open a gnome-term via a custom launcher in the panel. We've had this reported before, though not in this detail. We weren't able to reproduce it as first reported. Yes, please open a bug report. Ralf, you're just too darned quick. I was going to make an announcement about KDE 2.1 and still will, but you beat me to it. We had a couple of glitches, one during the KDE 2.1 build and one involving the web site. The web site glitch was supposed to be fixed today, but it wasn't. The build glitch was that we were doing some transition work for the future on our backup build system, and the libjpeg on that system had one extra exposed symbolic link that wasn't exposed in libjpeg-6b-2. That caused kde to generate a dependency on libjpeg.so, which you somehow had to get around (did you use --nodeps to install it)? If I'm right, what you ought to be able to do is ln -s /opt/freeware/lib/libjpeg.so.62.0.0 /usr/lib/libjpeg Marc > > Saw the new RPMs for KDE2.1 yesterday and upgraded my machine. Any chance that you're using trying to query the file name? Let's say that you install the zsh rpm: $ rpm -iv zsh-3.0.8-2.aix4.3.ppc.rpm zsh-3.0.8 If you then try to query or remove zsh, you need to just specify zsh, or zsh-3.0.8: $ rpm -q zsh zsh-3.0.8 If you try to query zsh-3.0.8-2.aix4.3.ppc.rpm, you'll not find a match $ rpm -q zsh-3.0.8-2.aix4.3.ppc.rpm package zsh-3.0.8-2.aix4.3.ppc.rpm is not installed Marc > > Hi, > > I have tried installing the rpm.rte file on our AIX 4.3.3 server. I'm seeing some very strange behavior with gnome-terms. I open a gnome-term via a custom launcher in the panel. It executes "/usr/bin/bash --login", and is set to "Run in Terminal". When I open a second gnome-term via the same launcher, the output from the second terminal goes to the first terminal, sometimes, and typing in the second terminal only partially works. The same is roughly true in reverse. Input and output from the first terminal is also messed up. Also, every time I open a terminal as above, I get these two annoying messages: readline: warning: turning on OPOST for terminal readline: warning: turning on OPOST for terminal Anybody have any ideas? Should I just open a bug report? (Is this AIX-specific behavior?) Thanks! Paul Clarke, IBM |
