    Shimmer for Android

    Shimmer for Android

An easy way to add a shimmering effect to any view in an Android app

Shimmer is an Android library that provides an easy way to add a shimmer effect to any view in your Android app. It is useful as an unobtrusive loading indicator that was originally developed for Facebook Home. Shimmer for Android is implemented as a layout, which means that you can simply nest any view inside a ShimmerFrameLayout tag, and call to start the animation from your code. That's all that is required. The layout will use the values you specify either on the tag (using custom attributes) or programmatically in your code, and generate an animation on the fly. See the API reference for further details. Note that you cannot use the custom attributes on the tag if you use the Jar file. You can instead download the AAR file and reference that locally in your project. You can use the included Gradle wrapper to build the Shimmer library and sample application locally as well.

    Spring Boot Examples

    Spring Boot Examples

Spring Boot tutorials, technology stack example code

spring-boot-examples is a collection of small, runnable projects that teach Spring Boot “by example,” emphasizing minimal dependencies and practical, copy-pasteable patterns. The repository provides multiple standalone demos (e.g., web, scheduling, persistence, messaging, caching, Docker) to help beginners quickly grasp common components and idioms. The author notes that all examples have been updated to Spring Boot 3.0, with earlier 1.x and 2.x code paths kept accessible for reference. Each sample focuses on a single topic—such as Web MVC, WebFlux, Thymeleaf, JPA/MyBatis CRUD, file upload, Redis/MongoDB, RabbitMQ, and containerization—so you can learn one concept at a time and compose them later. There are also demos for testing, packaging (JAR/WAR), and Docker Compose scenarios that combine Spring Boot with Nginx and MySQL. If you want additional topics covered, the maintainer invites requests via issues so the set can keep growing with the community’s needs.

    Strimzi

    Strimzi

    Apache Kafka® running on Kubernetes

Strimzi provides a way to run an Apache Kafka cluster on Kubernetes in various deployment configurations. Strimzi provides a way to run an Apache Kafka cluster on Kubernetes in various deployment configurations. For development, it’s easy to set up a cluster in Minikube in a few minutes. For production you can tailor the cluster to your needs, using features such as rack awareness to spread brokers across availability zones, and Kubernetes taints and tolerations to run Kafka on dedicated nodes. You can expose Kafka outside Kubernetes using NodePort, Load balancer, Ingress and OpenShift Routes, depending on your needs, and these are easily secured using TLS. The Kube-native management of Kafka is not limited to the broker. You can also manage Kafka topics, users, Kafka MirrorMaker and Kafka Connect using Custom Resources. This means you can use your familiar Kubernetes processes and tooling to manage complete Kafka applications.

    Subsampling Scale Image View

    Subsampling Scale Image View

Deep zoom view for displaying huge images without loss of detail

Android library (AAR). Highly configurable, easily extendable deep zoom view for displaying huge images without loss of detail. Perfect for photo galleries, maps, building plans etc. A custom image view for Android, designed for photo galleries and displaying huge images (e.g. maps and building plans) without OutOfMemoryErrors. Includes pinch to zoom, panning, rotation and animation support, and allows easy extension so you can add your own overlays and touch event detection. The view optionally uses subsampling and tiles to support very large images - a low resolution base layer is loaded and as you zoom in, it is overlaid with smaller high resolution tiles for the visible area. This avoids holding too much data in memory. It's ideal for displaying large images while allowing you to zoom in to the high resolution details. You can disable tiling for smaller images and when displaying a bitmap object.

    Swagger Core

    Swagger Core

Examples, server integrations for generating Swagger API Specification

Swagger Core is a Java implementation of the OpenAPI Specification. Current version supports JAX-RS2 (javax and jakarta namespaces). One of the common usage scenarios is to integrate swagger-jaxrs2 into an existing or new JAX-RS based project ("code-first"), to automatically provide and expose its APIs definition, which is kept in sync during the project lifecycle. Such definition can be the base for further processing/consumption, including API documentation (e.g with swagger-ui, API client generation in various languages (e.g with swagger-codegen), custom processing, and so on. Such result is achieved by scanning JAX-RS resources and resolving their operations and used types, (also) processing applied annotations (e.g. Swagger, JAX-RS, Jackson, JAXB, etc.). An extension mechanism allows to further customize and pre/post processing result.

    checkstyle

    checkstyle

Development tool to help programmers write standard Java code

Checkstyle is a development tool to help programmers write Java code that adheres to a coding standard. It automates the process of checking Java code to spare humans of this boring (but important) task. This makes it ideal for projects that want to enforce a coding standard. Checkstyle is highly configurable and can be made to support almost any coding standard. An example configuration files are supplied supporting the Sun Code Conventions, Google Java Style. Checkstyle can check many aspects of your source code. It can find class design problems, method design problems. It also has the ability to check code layout and formatting issues. Since Checkstyle 7, some users have been unable to continue upgrading to newer versions of the utility because of the new JDK 1.8 compile requirement. The development team doesn't have the resources to keep updating the utility for older JDKs for those that can't work with the latest version.

    libsu

    libsu

A complete solution for apps using root permissions

libsu is a modern Android library that provides a safe, convenient API for executing commands with root privileges and interacting with the Android shell. Instead of ad-hoc Runtime.exec calls, it offers structured sessions, proper I/O streams, and lifecycle handling that works reliably across devices. The library focuses on developer ergonomics: thread-safe helpers, Kotlin-friendly APIs, and utilities for file operations, process management, and parcelable data transfer. It’s designed to interoperate smoothly with Magisk-based root environments while degrading gracefully on non-rooted devices when possible. Attention is given to security and correctness—avoiding resource leaks, handling timeouts, and containing elevated operations to explicit scopes. For apps that legitimately need privileged automation or maintenance tasks, libsu becomes the backbone that keeps the “root” parts predictable and testable.

    picocli

    picocli

Framework for building GraalVM-enabled command line apps

Picocli is a one-file framework for creating Java command-line applications with almost zero code. It supports a variety of command-line syntax styles including POSIX, GNU, MS-DOS and more. It generates highly customizable usage help messages that use ANSI colors and styles to contrast important elements and reduce the cognitive load on the user. Picocli-based applications can have command line TAB completion showing available options, option parameters, and subcommands, for any level of nested subcommands. Picocli-based applications can be ahead-of-time compiled to a GraalVM native image, with extremely fast startup time and lower memory requirements, which can be distributed as a single executable file. Picocli generates beautiful documentation for your application (HTML, PDF and Unix man pages). Another distinguishing feature of picocli is how it aims to let users run picocli-based applications without requiring picocli as an external dependency.

    pushy

    pushy

A Java library for sending APNs (iOS/macOS/Safari)

Pushy is a Java library for sending APNs (iOS, macOS, and Safari) push notifications. Pushy sends push notifications using Apple’s HTTP/2-based APNs protocol and supports both TLS and token-based authentication. It distinguishes itself from other push notification libraries with a focus on thorough documentation, asynchronous operation, and design for industrial-scale operation. With Pushy, it’s easy and efficient to maintain multiple parallel connections to the APNs gateway to send large numbers of notifications to many different applications (“topics”). We believe that Pushy is already the best tool for sending APNs push notifications from Java applications, and we hope you’ll help us make it even better via bug reports and pull requests. If you need a simple GUI application for sending push notifications for development or testing purposes, you might also be interested in Pushy’s sister project, Pushy Console.
