Skim is a PDF reader and note-taker for OS X. It is designed to help you read and annotate scientific papers in PDF, but is also great for viewing any PDF file. Skim requires OS X 10.10 or higher.

Paintbrush is a Cocoa-based paint program for Mac OS X, similar to Microsoft Paint and MacPaint.

Shimmer is a lightweight Objective-C library by Facebook that adds an elegant, animated shimmering effect to views—used as a subtle loading indicator, such as in the Paper app. There's also an example project. In the example, you can swipe horizontally and vertically to try various shimmering parameters, or tap to start or stop shimmering. (To build the example locally, you'll need to open FBShimmering.xcworkpace rather than the .xcodeproj.) Shimmer uses the -[CALayer mask] property to enable shimmering, similar to what's described in John Harper's 2009 WWDC talk (unfortunately no longer online). Shimmer uses CoreAnimation's timing features to smoothly transition "on-beat" when starting and stopping the shimmer.

Lynkeos is a Cocoa® application dedicated to the processing of astronomical digital images taken through a telescope. It is optimized for SSE vectorized instructions sets, multi-processor and multi-core machines.

Agar provides a base GUI framework and a standard set of widgets from which graphical applications can be built which run natively under X11, Windows, MacOS, SDL and others. It takes advantage of texture and GPU acceleration wherever available. Agar can also attach to an existing framebuffer, SDL or OpenGL context and operate as a self-contained window-manager. It includes a standard library of general-purpose widgets, and is also designed to be extended externally. New widgets can be implemented as part of an application or library. Complex user interface elements can be realized often in few lines of code. Agar is also extensible at the low-level. The low-level API is documented such that modular drivers can be written which enable Agar applications to work seamlessly under many platforms graphics systems without any change at the application level.

AnimatedTransitionGallery is an iOS demonstration application that collects many custom transitions between view controllers. The examples are built around the UIViewControllerAnimatedTransitioning protocol and related transition APIs. Its catalog includes line, ghost, brick, blur, dissolve, flash, page-curl, ripple, fade, bounce, cube, fold, portal, flip, zoom, and carousel effects. Several transitions use Core Image, while others rely on custom geometry and animation controllers. The gallery brings implementations from multiple open-source projects into one interface for direct visual comparison. Building the complete application requires initializing its Git submodules after cloning the repository. It is best suited to developers studying transition techniques or searching for animation patterns to adapt to their own interfaces.
