Quickly swap any file icon

Icons are one of the fastest visual cues for identifying apps and documents, but default sets (especially those bundled with Windows) can be dull. If you like customizing your desktop, changing icons is an easy way to add personality.

How IconChanger works

• Click the "Set" button after picking the graphic you want to use to apply the change.
• Right‑click the file you want to modify to open the context menu and choose IconChanger (if the option appears).
• Browse the IconPane to view the source file that contains the icon currently used by the selected object.
• Use the built‑in search to scan EXE and DLL files on your drive for additional icons to choose from.

Note: Some system or protected icons cannot be altered; if IconChanger cannot modify an item, the Change Icon indicator will not appear.

Changing many icons at once

• You can assign or restore icons for several items in a single operation.
• To change the icon for an entire file type, open IconChanger for any file of that type and set or reset the type’s icon from there.
• Keep in mind that manually updating hundreds of icons can become time‑consuming; for a large-scale refresh, consider whether the effort is worth the result.
