It sounds like your printer is not set up to accept PostScript...? Or, more likely, our PS is bogus. (It's known to not work correctly for some people.) One suggestion is to try piping the printout through "ps2ps". (e.g., instead of "lpr", make it "ps2ps | lpr") You could also try setting it up to save the PostScript to a file (e.g., change it from "lpr" to "cat > /tmp/tuxpaint.ps") and check whether that PS file looks ok (say, in KPDF or some other viewer).
