I was reviewing old bugs against tuxpaint and found this one which, based on some testing on Debian, appears to no longer be relevant: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=421916 I tried dpkg-reconfigure locales and deselected all locales other than the ones I used. I then used tuxpaint-config to change languages, and they displayed fine, whether or not the corresponding locales were generated. I also tested tuxpaint with the --lang and --locale options, which produced identical results, and verified setting a locale from the command line (LANG=vi_VN tuxpaint) successfully started tuxpaint in that language. I believe this means tuxpaint no longer depends on locales being generated on Linux. If I'm right, the no longer relevant bits of the following FAQs should be removed. The only issue I can see that might be left in the FAQ is "Tux Paint doesn't display my language correctly", the answer to which is "Make sure you have the necessary font" and the text that follows. It refers to the FAQ here: * /Tux Paint is in a different language!/ Make sure your locale setting is correct. See "Tux Paint won't switch to my language", below. * /Tux Paint won't switch to my language/ o /Linux and Unix users: Make sure the locale is available/ Make sure the locale you want is available. Check your "/etc/locale.gen" file. See the OPTIONS documentation <http://www.tuxpaint.org/docs/html/OPTIONS.html> for the locales Tux Paint uses (especially when using the "|--lang|" option). Note: Debian users can simply run "|dpkg-reconfigure locales|" if the locales are managed by "dpkg." + If you're using the "|--lang|" command-line option Try using the "|--locale|" command-line option, or your operating system's locale settings (e.g., the "|$LANG|" environment variable), and please e-mail us regarding your trouble. + If you're using the "|--locale|" command-line option If this doesn't work, please e-mail us regarding your trouble. + If you're trying to use your Operating System's locale If this doesn't work, please e-mail us regarding your trouble. + Make sure you have the necessary font Some translations require their own font. Chinese and Korean, for example, need Chinese and Korean TrueType Fonts installed and placed in the proper location, respectively. The appropriate fonts for such locales can be downloaded from the Tux Paint website: http://www.tuxpaint,org/download/fonts/ <http://www.tuxpaint.org/download/fonts/> Ben P.S. Sorry if this is a duplicate. It was my first of two posts today, the second of which appeared but this one did not, nor did I receive any bounce message. I assume it was dropped due to accidentally sending as HTML the first time. This time I've sent as text-only. |
