I'm Cc'ing my response to him, as well as to the tuxpaint-i18n mailing list, where _active_ and interested translators should be dwelling. Tux Paint does maintain its own translation info page, since I don't always have time to update the Translation Project. Additionally, I receive translations directly from all sorts of random people. Ubuntu's Rosetta is another culprit of translations coming into the project. I've made the Tux Paint website the _definitive_ place for Tux Paint's translation files, since it hooks into the translations files in CVS (which are duplicated on FTP, for easier download). I would have utilized the Translation Project more, but last I recall, it wasn't easy to submit translation POTs and POs to TP on a finer granularity than 'version releases.' Since Tux Paint typically gets worked on for 6 months to a year (or more!) between releases, and _sometimes_ a lot of POT strings change, or new POT strings are added (esp. when a batch of new Stamp artwork is added, and description files created), I think the Tux Paint website's PO stats page is the best way of keeping things active an in sync. Of course, whenever someone DOES send an updated PO via the Translation Project, unless it's totally unmergeable, I commit it to CVS (and the PO page at the Tux Paint website gets updated soon thereafter). If there IS a problem merging, I try to put the last person who edited the PO in Tux Paint CVS into contact with the person who committed the change to the Translation Project. Now, since I haven't looked in a while, and I'm keen to make translation as easy as possible (which means I'll be looking at Pootle, too, to see if it will be easy for _me_ to integrate with), I wonder -- has it become easier to commit updated POT and PO to the Translation Project site, without having to say "this is from version 0.9.20" (which doesn't exist yet, and probably won't for a year)? Or would it be possible for the Trans. Proj. site to pull down the latest, similar to what the Tux Paint website does for itself. (Obviously, I see the benefit of sites like the Translation Project, Pootle, and Ubuntu's Rosetta, since a person interested in translastion Open Source software would enjoy having access to multiple OSS projects' POs all at once, rather than having to deal with _all_ of the projects' various .tar.gz downloads, CVS/SVN/git/etc., websites, mailing lists, etc.) Thanks! (And, though I'm seriously getting behind on work right now, I'll go take a peek at the Trans. Proj. website right now, to see if I can answer my own questions ;) ) -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |
