Category: Visual Group: None >Status: Pending Resolution: None Priority: 7 Submitted By: Brad Hards (bradh) Assigned to: Ilya Konstantinov (ikonst) Summary: Reversed characters with XP, 64 bit Initial Comment: David Sharp filed a bug against krdc in the KDE bugtracker - http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117405 I believe that this is an rdesktop problem (because it occurs when using rdesktop from the command line, not just with krdc). If you agree that the most likely problem is with rdesktop, I'll close the KDE bug. The report is as follows: Connecting from x86 based SuSE 10 (kernel 2.6.13-15-default) celeron 2400 based machine via krdc to a Windows x64 and/or Windows Server 2003 (std edn) remote desktop. I Have not got a 'Plain' Windows XP machine to test connection to see if the same behavior is repeated. Desktop size is 1024x768 on both desktops but same behaviour repeated at 640x480 and 800x600 (remote desktop sizes) and 8,16 and 24bit colour depth. Certain letters are reversed/mirrored on the windows desktop/apps and even on the windows login box. eg Lee looks like Jee This does this even in the windows login box, again L looks like J and t is reversed in all the text of the box. As well as this sometimes letters flip while typing, eg renaming a file to something with a 'L' in the name and when you type the letter L it may flip to looking more like a 'J', then when the next letter is typed flip back to being the right way round. I've noticed the problem on the following letters L t r J and the chars `,? But some letters seem to do it at some sizes and not others so there may be more. Tried updating to kdenetwork3-vnc-3.5.0-5 but this version still does the same. Same behaviour is *NOT* repeated when using windows XP and the MS remote desktop to connect. A screenshot of chars the wrong way round taken via rdc and pasted into mspaint corrects the letters. A screenshot taken via linux of the kdrc window shows the letters reversed. Same programs (ie using same fonts etc) running on the linux machine are correct (IE and DC++ under wine). Screenshots and examples are available. 100% reproducable, does it every time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Ilya Konstantinov (ikonst) Date: 2006-01-08 01:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=335423 Reporter, do you also have a Radeon card? The problem probably occurs whenever we use XSetStipple with a 8x8 font glyph. We could insert a special condition for 8x8 glyphs -- to enlarge them to 9x9 or something -- but I think, since this is a server-wide bug, we'd better make it a known issue and recommend Radeon users to use Option "XaaNoMono8x8PatternFillRect" until this issue with their X server's driver is resolved. (Reporter, are you using the latest version of XFree86 / Xorg?) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2006-01-03 06:25 Message: Logged In: NO I experienced the same 'reversal' of charaters (t,J,L...) but a workaround described in a 2003 posting fixed it (see below). This problem only crops up, in my experience, with boxes using an ATI Radeon card. [I added this 'Option' in xorg.conf] Section "Device" ... Option "XaaNoMono8x8PatternFillRect" ... EndSection ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Brad Hards (bradh) Date: 2005-12-05 08:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=13687 I don't have the right server to test, however David Sharp advised that putting the magic X option in did work for him. So this is probably a duplicate of that problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ilya Konstantinov (ikonst) Date: 2005-12-04 23:33 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=335423 This looks just the bug described here: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=638129&group_id=24366&atid=381347 Does the suggestion posted there (Option "XaaNoMono8x8PatternFillRect") help you? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ilya Konstantinov (ikonst) Date: 2005-12-04 22:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=335423 Brad, this sounds like a significant problem. Few things: 1. If you have screenshots, then please attach them to this bug. They might help to get the point across better than words. 2. Your screenshots experiment is brought to prove that Windows sees everything as usual, right? 3. From you explanation, I did not understand: Windows 2003 is a regular 32bit edition Windows 2003 with no service packs? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=381347&aid=1372644&group_id=24366 |
