Hallo Frau Schirmer! wir haben einen gast-login des TuxPPC projektes der uni augsburg mit den OpenPower-servern von IBM und wurden gebeten ein feedback zu geben, was wir hiermit gerne tun. wir benutzen den account fuer Qucs, dem Quite Universal Circuit Simulator, http://qucs.sourceforge.net/. dabei handelt es sich um einen freien schaltungssimulator, mit dem analoge schaltungen simuliert und erforscht werden koennen, bevor sie aufgebaut werden. es besteht aus einer grafischen oberflaeche, die mittels Qt realisiert ist und einem simulations-backend, welches keine grafische oberflaeche hat. beides ist in C++ implementiert. da Qucs auf auf vielen plattformen laufen soll, haben wir das angebot des TucPPC projekts gerne angenommen, um sicherzustellen, das Qucs auf diesen systemen uebersetzt und benutzt werden kann. fuer uns studenten und privatpersonen ist es schwierig, zugriff auf diese art plattform zu bekommen, deswegen war nicht sicher, dass alles richtig funktioniert. zu unserer freude ging aber alles, wie gewuenscht. das configure-script hat wie erwartet funktioniert und alle programmteile liefen auch auf 64 bit. wenn wir den account weiterhin benutzen koennen, werden wir auch performance-messungen vornehmen, da das simulationsbackend reines "number-crunching" ist. es wird interessant sein, wie sich die PPC-systeme pro Mhz im vergleich zu x86-systemen schlagen. die verfuegbarkeit mehrerer prozessoeren legt den gedanken nahe, die simulation zu parallelisieren. dies ist jedoch eher ein fernes ziel, da die algorithmen meist iterativ und inkrementell arbeiten und so die parallelisierung schwierig ist. wir hoffen, dass sie mit diesem feedback etwas anfangen koennen und auch weiterhin IBM-systeme fuer freie projekte zur verfuegung stellen.
