Display control for "conditional" skills ---------------------------------------- Key: CODE-1076 URL: http://jira.pcgen.org/browse/CODE-1076 Project: Code Issue Type: New Feature Components: Needs Verification Review Reporter: David R. Bender SF - ID: 2891654 Last Update: Settings changed ( karianna ) Details: The data team has implemented a feature know as conditional skills which has proven popular. These are versions of parent skills which can have different bonuses dependent on circumstances. We have a major limitation in how this is implemented: the conditional skills are activated via a BONUS:SKILLRANK which has a PRERULE tag on it so that these can be disabled with the use of a house rule check box. The limitation of this is that the skill will then only be active if the parent skill has ranks. So there are skills that can be used untrained that will not output without ranks, if the conditional skill were set to use untrained it would not be suppressed by the house rule. I think we should look at code enhancements since the conditional skill concept has proven popular. Perhaps a new tag for skills can indicate that a skill is a conditional skill and then the GUI can be enhanced to add additional display options for these and we can remove the house rule we currently use to control display. I thought of a couple of possibilities: USEUNTRAINED:CONDITIONAL Since USEUNTRAINED already effects how skills are displayed it seems like an intuitive addition to me. Or the straight forward: CONDITIONAL:YES, where NO would be the default when not present. The skill output menu would be expanded like so: None Untrained Conditional Untrained & Conditional All This was first presented in this thread: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/pcgen_experimental/message/12937 Submitted: Eddy Anthony ( eddyanthony ) - 2009-11-03 23:05:39 EST -- This message is automatically generated by JIRA. - If you think it was sent incorrectly contact one of the administrators: http://jira.pcgen.org/secure/Administrators.jspa - For more information on JIRA, see: http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira |
