PCGEN sending updates for PCs in network environment ---------------------------------------------------- Key: CODE-700 URL: http://jira.pcgen.org/browse/CODE-700 Project: Code Issue Type: New Feature Components: Needs Verification Review Reporter: David R. Bender SF - ID: 886558 Last Update: Settings changed ( thpr ) Details: We are a small group of D&d players and like PCGEN a lot. When we play, we sit around the table and put our laptops in a small network. However PCGEN does not allow to view/manipulate the same instance of a character at all networked pc's at the same time. If the wizards casts Magic weapon on the weapon of another player, both the wizard and the other player need to change this in their local files, or one player changes and the others need to reload the character. The same is true when using GMGEN. It would be extremely nice to be able to make a change at one PC and this gets reflected at all the other networked pc's. We jsut need to send the name of the template to apply across the net and if the template doesn't exist, error. If it does, apply it we would need a screen for applying them to others. that's about it. Oh, and an alert for the GM for templates being applied to baddies. Probably means we need to start creating templates for damage, as well as applying of other effects from spells (like sickened for stinking cloud). Big project, well worth it in the end. I would actually like to keep this. It would require a complete re-write of the way PCGen reads/processes/writes characters. In fact the difficulty of doing the above is massive. As a work around, I would suggest one person run PCGen on their computer, load up all the PC's and then display that screen to a central monitor/TV. That way you can quickly change each PC as spells, etc are cast.
