Category: Races List File Incorrect Information Group: For 5.14 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Martijn Verburg (karianna) >Assigned to: Andrew McDougall (tir-gwaith) Summary: Halflings in RSRD incorrect Initial Comment: Hi, I was comparing each of the Halfling races and it appears that some are missing some information and racial bonuses. 1. The standard (lightfoot) "Halfling" entry and the "Halfling (Tallfellow)" entry are both missing the information "Low-light" after "Vision:" in the "Selected Race/Class Info" box on the "Summary" tab. 2. Starting languages: It appears from the RSRD that Tallfellow halflings should have Elven in addition to the Lightfoot's Common and Halfling, and that Deep halflings should have Dwarven in addition to Common and Halfling. The wording of the two subraces is not standardized, unfortunately, with the entry for Tallfellows stating "They generally speak Elven in addition to Common and Halfling" and for Deeps, "Deep halflings speak Dwarven fluently." Generally, a trait added to a subrace is in addition to those of the standard form unless otherwise stated, so that Dwarven is definitely looking like an addition. "Generally" is a little vague, but one could assume that the `elf-like' halflings would get Elven in the same way the `dwarf-like' halflings get Dwarven. 3. The Special Abilities tab for the `dwarf-like' Deep halflings mentions the "+2 racial bonus on Appraise and Craft checks that are related to stone or metal", identical to Dwarf's bonuses, but this bonus is not applied to the Craft skills as it is with a Dwarf (i.e. to Armorsmithing, Blacksmithing, Metalsmithing, Stonemasonry, Stoneworking, and Weaponsmithing). 4. The Special Abilities areas do not mention the Halflings' "+1 racial bonus on attack rolls with thrown weapons and slings." (This area always seems a little inconsistent to me: would it be a good place to mention, in addition to the long, alphabetized list below, the racial Weapon Familiarites (e.g., longswords, rapiers, and bows for elves, `dwarven' Exotic weapons as Martial, and so forth), and a place to mention the various Listen, Listen/Search/Spot, and Climb/Jump/Move Silently bonuses by various races and subraces.) ~~ Matt ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Andrew McDougall (tir-gwaith) Date: 2008-04-18 12:42 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=208239 Originator: NO Agree with 1 Agree with 2, but for a different reason: Normal Halflings get Dwarven and Elven as a Bonus Language, so keeping that way would mean there is no reason to mention it. The fact that it is mentioned makes the LANGAUTO the more appropriate tag. Agree with 3. (Ability object post 5.14 would be nice....) Agree with 4, at least as far as the +1 to attack rolls... I'm not sure about the whole Weapon Familiarity thing... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=750091&aid=1945461&group_id=25576 |
