Category: Feat Support Group: To be fixed For 5.14 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Martijn Verburg (karianna) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) >Summary: Better Error message for incorrect Ability .MOD Initial Comment: > Frank what would the error be if there were multiple > items that matched but in different catagories, maybe > the error should spit out "Multiple Pobjects <name> > found, specify what category item you are attempting to > MOD" or something like that. I agree it needs a better error message for abilities. It's not clear right now and needs to be fixed (TM, please, thanks) However, the case of one item with that key or many is not relevant for abilities. PCGen will fail to do the .MOD in this case because the CATEGORY is missing. This happends regardless of whether there is only one or more than one item with the matching key. This is because the key is not all that is requried to find an Ability. You *must* provide a Category and a key to "look up" the Ability, or PCGen can't find it. Category is effectively a "super key" (although I know it drives the data monkeys nuts for me to call it that ;P). Attempting shortcuts by allowing addressing without a Category risks ambiguity (and therefore potential for character corruption) as multiple sources are/are not loaded. Needing to call upon the ability - also is the proper syntax there? (At work so can't look at the most up to date version) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=384719&aid=1752485&group_id=25576 |
