By default, files with the txt extension are interpreted as being "system encoded" (e.g., Windows 1252 under Windows). OmegaT's readme is in UTF-8. To translate it with OmegaT (with the default options), it should be renamed as readme.utf8 This is covered in the manual. For further assistance, I recommend using the support group. I now close this report, as it is obviously not a bug. There is no specific processing of Scandinavian languages, and there is no need to. What happens, most likely, is that the encoding you choose for the target file (in Options/File filters) is not compatible with your characters. If you use UTF-8 (for instance) for both source and target, there is no risk of losing characters.
