[Mingw-msys] Howto obtain a full Windows path from a shell command?

Guys, is there a way to ascertain the full Windows path from a shell
command like `pwd` ? Ie, I want
     J:/MinSYS/home/Angus/...
rather than
     /home/Angus/...

I have this snippet in a Makefile.am that substitutes paths for
"%LYX_DIR%", "%LOCALEDIR%" and "%TOP_SRCDIR%", creating the file package.C
which is then compiled. I'd like the executable to contain strings that
are independent of the configure environment.
