Yes, in consideration of those who do not have broadband connections (>56Kbps). Also (this is more of an afterthought than anything else), it would be a way to maintain modularization between binaries as not everyone wants GCJ...yet -- not everyone should be placed in a situation where they must download GCJ (or anything else for that matter). > IMHO, only C/C++ should be the core of MinGW GCC with other "language > packs" downloadable as needed - GCJ itself is rather large (and > getting bigger every day). > > Even the self-installing "MinGW" exe might want to do something like > IE setup (or Cygwin setup) where it only gets the components that the > user has selected (but gcc-core, binutils, mingw-runtime and w32api > included and made mandatory). Actually, maintaining that setup tool for Cygwin is a nightmare. I agree that there ought to be some way to select specific components, perhaps a window where you simply click on the components that you want (GCJ, Fortran, Ada, etc. -- Mingw runtime could just be part of default download selection). I do not feel that an app similar to setup.exe is the way to go for installing individual components for something like Mingw, Msys or any of the various components thereof. Paul G. |
