It can't be in the actual MinGW directory. Was the command actually "gcc -c help.c"? It would be easier if you copy and paste your commands and error messages by selecting it in the MSYS window and pasting into the email (there is no "copy" command because highlighting causes the copy). If you installed MSYS after MinGW, the installer should have asked you to enter the location of the MinGW directory so that it could modify "/etc/fstab". Does your fstab file contain a line "c:/mingw /mingw" ? (use "cat /etc/fstab"). If not then that would be the problem. Please make sure you read the MSYS readme files too.
