    My original problem wasn't that. I'm still puzzled, but it seems to be 
working now. The problem I had here was with running SED from a makefile, 
using Cygwin bash as the shell, so the % is not a problem. Also, I did try 
other characters without success.

    As I said, it works now, although I still don't know why it didn't.

    Thanks to all for your help. I'm generating dependencies now! :)
