@LRN > That's the name of the problem you have - software > building. That's one problem. However, if you got the impression that I thought learning software building tools would take thousands of hours, I should clarify. I think learning a programming language will take thousands of hours, because I think it should be learned like a natural language, to read programs written by others and understand them and be able to debug and add to them. Previously I've only fiddled around writing BASIC programs for my own amusement with a minimum of reading programs written by others and other languages. Earlier today I studied and mostly understood the definitions and syntax of the 32 C89 keywords. > Obviously, a text > editor with syntax highlighting is preferred, and IDE will provide > that, if you choose to use it. Some kind of "programmer's notepad" > would suffice. > Or you can use `vim' from command line, but that would be very hardcore. Tried vim in Msys. It kept making the simulated PC-speaker beep for most keys, until I happened to hit control Z. Tried it again. Same deal and when I entered "help" it said: "E433: No tags file" "E149: Sorry, no help for help.txt." That is hardcore. Worse than trying to use Edlin in DOS without knowing its commands. (despite adding the MinGW and Msys bin folders to my path) |
