I agree this is very likely a bug in your code. You can try to tell gdb (or use ddd) to "watch" the variables - that way, the program will be stopped whenever their values change, and you may be able to identify that dangling pointer. I'm not sure, but watchpoints could be unsupported or very slow under mingw - if possible, try to debug that under Linux.
