I'm new to mingw. I'm running mingw-1.1 on W98. I have a few stupid questions: (1) I notice that all of the .exe files in MinGW\mingw32\bin have same-name counterparts in MinGW\bin, but nothing in the documentation explains the difference. Could someone clarify this for me? (2) Similarly, I cannot find anything explaining the difference between gcc.exe and mingw32-gcc.exe. The binaries seem to differ in only one byte. (3) In a third-party tutorial I found the gcc switch, -mwindows, which seems to work but is not documented either in the gcc or ld html. Have I missed something? (4) In make.html, it says that the 'include' directive search path defaults to the DJGPP root. This seems odd, since DJGPP "competes" with MinGW. Or is it just that the GNU utilities are included as-is, without adjustment for MinGW? (This seems to be the case, since all the examples are from Unix.) (5) Is there is clear discussion anywhere, possibly third-party, on the distinction between .dll, .lib, and .a files as seen from the MinGW perspective? (6) Has anyone found a way to emulate the Mi_____ft nmake "<<" operator (inline files)? |
