I post this on the JUMP lists, although it is off-topic, and not directly= =20 related to JUMP. I am thinking about setting up a GIS apprenticeship program. Something that= =20 would provide a viable alternative to working adults or young people for=20 whom higher education is not practical. (For costs or other reasons.) The program would focus on on-line education and experience with volunteer= =20 projects. I am curious if there is an international GIS certificate to recognize=20 skills and abilities in the GIS field. I have checked in the U.S., and the= =20 certificates available are for those with many years of education and=20 experience, or "software specific". I thought of no better place to discuss this issue than the JUMP community.= =20 I don't believe there is a more active worldwide community of GIS users. Would any members of our community be interested in establishing the=20 requirements for an "International Certificate" in GIS? Is anyone intereste= d=20 in working together on an apprenticeship program? If so, please contact me at sun...@gm.... Thanks, The Sunburned Surveyor |
