I tried installing Greenshot on a second machine to recreate my previous bug. The second machine has the same version of Windows installed on it - Windows 7, 64-bit. However on my second machine, I intentionally have my normal account as non-administrator. The installer doesn't try to get elevated administrator permissions and so fails in the last step of the installation process when it tries to write to the Program Files directory.

I can work around this, by right-clicking and saying run as administrator, but I think the installer itself should be requesting the Admin access.

We think Greenshot should be installable without Admin rights, as there more or less is nothing NEEDED in the registry. There are some settings which improve the "Greenshot experience" but there is nothing against a non admin installation with some less features.

So I changed the installer to work with localdata as an install path if the user doesn't have the rights to install in Program files.

Can you test with the latest 1.1.0? It's still in development but it should be better and this problem should be fixed. If you get to much problems, you should go back to 1.0.6 (but I don't expect you want to)

    You can find it here:

    Hi Robin,

I uninstalled Greenshot 1.0.6 and installed Greenshot-INSTALLER-1.1.0.2443-UNSTABLE.exe on a non-admin account on my machine. That installed perfectly into the users local AppData directory. I got a warning that there was already a directory there, but apart from that the installation and use of the Dropbox plugin all went fine.

I then installed v1.1.0 via an admin account on the same machine, which requested admin permissions and also installed perfectly.

Love the Zoom window when capturing a region :)

    Cheers,

    Ian
