[Gnuplot-info] gnuplot on LINUX redhat 9

Hello,

I just installed  gnuplot-4.0.0 on LINUX REDHAT 9. 
After running I get:
Terminal type set to 'unknown'
I am able to change it using  'set term' to a list of available terminal types but none
of them( that I have tried so far) provide me any graphical result. Furthermore when I
exit and again run the gnuplot I get again "Terminal type set to 'unknown' ".
Could you please let me know how can I fix this problem in order to get graphical plots
and then save those as gif or JPG or ... files?
