set multiplot
   set size 0.5,0.5
   set origin 0.0,0.5
   plot ...
   set origin 0.5,0.5
   plot ...
   set size 1.0,0.5
   set origin 0.0,0.0
   plot ...
unset multiplot

to have the borders of the plots aligned you may have
to set the margins explicitely.
