That's your actual problem.  gnuplot can't read your file, period.

Nobody but you can find out why.  For starters, we out here don't even 
know what kind of computer you're talking about, much less what your 
data files' contents _actually_ are.  For all we know your data could be 
hidden in MS Word files...
