Hi,
Assuming no DHCP and entering RAW mode and Network use.
- The first line showing the eth device shows several "unknown" that don't fit the width.
- Option B Set IP Address only asks IP address, it does not ask for netmask, gateway and nameserver. (I've set them manually in another console, but this dialog should be the one to set them all).
One may work G4L with or without nameserver, but it would be easier to have it.
For IP address you can enter more than just the IP if needed.
192.168.128.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.128.255
Under Option S: you can enter special options as well, and there are a
couple that are pre built in.

Actually I would need gateway as well.
Might I suggest the script that does network settings on slackware? Very simple, dialog based and sets all parameters.
It would help if the "enter ip address" dialog said more about the syntax.

It is just that in probable 99% of the causes people don't need more than the
IP address since the machines are in the same network, or the dhcpd server
sets up everything. Option S allows for doing those things that are outside
the normal requirments.
Would be interesting to see the code. Did modify the script to handle swap
partitions with labels in addition to uuid.

Well, my scenario is either of machines where there is no DHCP (a server pool), or even better, a virtualization solution that runs DHCP but those addresses don't get routed outside. And my target FTP server is outside.
One more thing: if G4L sets address with DHCP, and I change IP address in another console, entering RAW mode, network mode, still shows the IP took by DHCP. I believe that screen could read IP on the fly to give accurate info.
Rather than doing thing in another terminal windows, using the S: option to
enter those commands might be better, but even so, if it doesn't change the
value of the variable, it will still show the old data.
The S: options include a few things that I had people request, and just added
them in quickly to do what was needed. But there are limits to the number of
lines, and the space for information. May even be that some of the old ones
are now obsolete, but will have to look.
I've always had a dhcpd server on my real network, and the virtual box
testing also seems to get the routing info as well.
Could look at added code if things are not there, but would have to figure
what might be left out.

This is netconfig script from Slackware that sets up the network parameters using dialog. It is for permanent configuration of the system, but I think a good inspiration.
