:-) Not for version 1.4.0, but for a later version, how about we take a lesson from Apple and make the data directory the actual .aup and store the xml file within it: my_music.aup <dir> my_music.xml <file> my_music_data <dir> blah...blah...blah That way ppl will only have to deal with one item rather than two. It's a directory so ppl would have to realize that and I'd hope that most ppl would be able to handle copying the whole thing if they wanted to move it to somewhere else. Anyway, just something I've been thinking about. Heck, while I'm at it... I've also been tossing around an idea for enhancing recovery of the individual .au files by adding additional info to the annotation area of the file. Currently, the summary data is stored there and we should be able to extend the area with more info. The additional information might include: 1) a version to tell Audacity what to expect 2) a unique track id that remains static for the project 3) a unique block id that remains static for the related track 4) a timestamp of the starting position within the track. An ID would be an unsigned 32-bit field and would be incremented from 0. I don't think a project would ever go through 4 billion track IDs and 4 billion block IDs per track. This would make recovery MUCH easier if the .aup file were to be deleted or corrupted. Leland |
