> You should start worrying about it at the end of March :-) Alexandre - I would add that: a) There's a page for expression of interest which may help us to get mentor status: http://www.audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Potential_GSoC_Students b) And Mark, you should already be discussing with us what project you would want to do, if Audacity becomes a mentoring organisation. Is there already a project suggestion on our wiki's GSoC ideas pages that your idea(s) would fit into? If there's not one already, then it's well worth discussing the ideas here. For example, I know many people see the MIDI features as something that is worth putting energy into. There are excellent Open Source MIDI sequencers out there, so we should be looking for a project to write a 'bridge' to one rather than try to do it all over again ourselves. Automatically converting Audio to Midi is new, and not something that other Open Source I'm aware of already does. However, it is in general a very hard problem. If that were being discussed, we'd talk through what can reasonably be achieved in the time, and certainly look at using VAMP analysis plug ins as the basis for such an extension. I just chose MIDI because it's a popular topic and shows the kind of thing that can come out of a discussion. Your application to be a mentored student then becomes much much stronger, because it has more solid information behind it. Tell us what you're interested in doing, and let's have that discussion. --James.
