| From Gale Andrews <ga...@au...>=20 | Mon, 03 Sep 2007 04:20:48 +0100 | OK just a few, and of course they are only my opinion so others may n= ot agree. |=20 | * Audio I/O | - Cut Preview: Either the time box comes after "Play" or replace "Pla= y" with | "Play time" - maybe I was having an off day but I certainly could n= ot grasp | that at first look =20 |=20 | - Effects Preview: Either the time box comes after "Play" or replace= "Play" | with "Play time" . Also this should be alongside Cut Preview. |=20 | - Seek Time should be "Seek Time when playing" =20 |=20 | * File Formats | - When exporting tracks:=20 | "Always mix all tracks down to mono or stereo file(s)" |=20 | "Use custom mix (for example, to export a multichannel 5:1 file)"=20 |=20 | An alternative to the above might be "Always mix tracks to a=20 | multichannel file" (though not strictly true). |=20 | This assumes we don't need to explain multichannel means three or mor= e=20 | channels. {snip} | | * Directories=20 | - Auto save every x minutes is of course not what happens unless we c= hange=20 | the code to do that as per discussion with Markus, so that changes = made=20 | inside the saving period are actually known about. As it is not eas= y to=20 | describe what we do now ("don't lose more than x minutes of edits")= , | and as I have it on an aim-to for 1.4, let's leave the description = for now.=20 | I realise the aim-to may be seen as lower priority. |=20 | - Audio cache: "Hold recorded data in memory until recording is stopp= ed" =20 |=20 | * Interface=20 | - Add "Select all audio when none selected" =20 | - Remove "update spectrogram while playing" as per Richard's idea | - Remove "always allow pausing and always allow playing" (always | on in interface) | - Replace "Quit Audacity upon closing last window" which some users= =20 | don't understand, with "Never quit Audacity upon File > Close" or= =20 | (better?) "Closing last window starts new empty Project" (default = is=20 | off).=20 | - I cannot see what is in "Prompt to Save when empty" in the build I= =20 | have, but if it doesn't do so, it should mention the word "Project" A few more comments: * Audio I/O: Software Playthrough=20 If no-one objects to the space used, this modification to the explanation= =20 in parentheses would be extremely useful: =20 =2E."(Play new track while recording it) - uncheck when recording "stereo m= ix" Of course this will not be in the Mac build. * Interface/Behaviours - Circular track keyboard navigation =20 I wanted to explain this better but I am not sure what this does that CTRL= =20 (+ SHIFT) + F6 does not do. There is no mention of it in David B's JAWS=20 guide. =20 - Show/Hide warnings about temp files Similarly (sorry) I was not sure what this does. Clearly even when this opt= ion=20 is enabled and there are temporary files present when opening Audacity, no warning is shown. This needs better explanation. =20 | Other things I noticed of varying degrees of importance while doing t= his, | none critical: | 3 Advanced Mixing Options looks awful with long track names:=20 | http://www.gaclrecords.org.uk/Amo.PNG |=20 | It might be better if the name was abbreviated to fit the Audio Track= box=20 | as happens with the Name dropdown.=20 |=20 | 4 Tracks > Stereo to Mono does not function on a stereo track unless = the | channels are of equal length - nothing happens when you click. You ha= ve to=20 | Tracks > Mix and Render, then Tracks > Stereo to Mono. I suggest this | should have "not aiming" status. =20 Have added to "not aiming" as no comments made to contrary | 5 If you import an MP3 the progress dialogue says:=20 | "Importing MP3 files File" Just left this in so next person in the area can change.
