Vaughan Sincere apologies for my hastiness, I should have waited and heeded the advice I sought. I thought it would take me longer and did not intend to do it last night, but then just thought I'd take a 'quick look' and before I knew it, it was done. I just wanted them all the same. I can see what you are saying and see that, for example, _http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/2.0/windows-utility.html#windows-explicit-apply_ (http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gup/hig/2.0/windows-utility.html#windows-expli cit-apply) agrees with you. What would be a suitable time period to wait for comments before I change them all back? Is there anything else that needs doing in this area at the same time? I noticed that the borders around the buttons and the spacer between Preview and the others is not always the same; is this a choice or accident? Is it possible to 'undo' that particular commit? Again, sorry. Martyn In a message dated 27/06/2007 07:47:19 GMT Standard Time, va...@au... writes: Okay, Martyn, my Caps Lock is off for this msg. I was just primed because I didn't understand why somebody had bothered to change the order for 5 of the 18, as you noticed, rather than just assume somebody had put all 18 in that consistent OK-at-bottom-right order for a reason (much less look up the reason). And of course, I can look up who it was, but blame is pointless -- I just want it resolved right, in terms of general usability. And then you decided, with no feedback, to change them all to the minority decision, based on a putative "standard" of Windows apps, and that made me pop. Heck, Microsoft can't even decide on consistent keyboard shortcuts between Word and Excel after all these (20?!) years. I know it's easy to change them back, but let's please make these choices with some rationality and discussion, rather than check something in and then (I hope) check in the reversal. To wit, several of the bugs I mentioned recently (but didn't elaborate) have to do with editing and tabbing among labels, which I now find really difficult to use. I'm glad we're now discussing those changes on the list. I realize the "standards" are far less clear on multiple platforms, and without question, we should stay committed to cross-platform usability. I'm all for committing up a "straw man" for discussion on new features, but when a semi-arbitrary or personal preference decision is instituted, contradicting something already in place and consistent, it's good to make it explicit to the list (which you did do!)... for discussion before we make changes, or release it.
