Hello Leland and other Audacity developers, We are a radio station using Audacity for audio editing and thus meta-data is rather important to us (and others like us). While ID3 information is a good start for storing meta data, there are many additional types of meta data that Audacity will hopefully be flexible enough to handle. Ogg Vorbis tags are one such example, some other examples include the Broadcast Wave format chunk and the Cart chunk to store broadcast related meta data. While we do not expect the Audacity developers to implement all of these meta data formats (instead, just the opposite, we hope to contribute some of that effort), we do hope that a flexible framework is put in place that can allow for other meta data types. # Broadcast wave info http://www.ebu.ch/en/technical/publications/userguides/bwf_user_guide.php http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:oZDIKGZel-MJ:www.ebu.ch/trev_274-chalmers.pdf+broadcast+wave&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us # Cart chunk info http://cartchunk.org:8080/ Some examples we have seen that are good models include the cooledit program which had a nice "tabbed" meta data viewer/editor. The waveviewer utility is an example of another program that could view several types of meta data. # link to screenshots of cooledit and waveviewer meta data viewers/editors http://techweb.rfa.org/grauf/metadata/ regards, donfede and Radio Free Asia Technical Operations -- Federico Grau Free Software Developer and Sysadmin Radio Free Asia 2025 M Street, NW Suite 300 Washington, DC 20036 202-587-2046 Telephone 202-721-7468 Facsimile CONFIDENTIAL COMMUNICATION This e-mail message is intended only for the use of the addressee and may contain information that is privileged and confidential.
