Jake, Download the full wxWidgets 2.6 source from their website (or find the Debian source package for it). Configure it and build it yourself. You don't need to run "make install" if you've already installed the Debian package, but it's helpful to have your own copy of the full source. Go into the samples directory and build some samples one at a time. Start with "minimal". Read through the source code and get an idea for how it works. Try modifying some things. Add a button to the window, add an item to the menu, etc. It comes with documentation in HTML and other forms, but here are some pointers to the online version: Here's a page that walks you through "hello, world" - very similar to the "minimal" sample: http://www.wxwidgets.org/manuals/2.6.2/wx_helloworld.html Documentation on the samples - ideas on which ones to start with and where to go next: http://www.wxwidgets.org/manuals/2.6.2/wx_samples.html#samples A rough guide to creating a wxWidgets application - this is often a good place to look when you want to add something but don't know what it's called, for example a "status bar" http://www.wxwidgets.org/manuals/2.6.2/wx_roughguide.html#roughguide I think you should write several hundred lines of wxWidgets code before you should try messing with Audacity. Audacity will make a lot more sense then. Good luck, Dominic On Oct 19, 2005, at 9:06 PM, Jake Thebault-Spieker wrote: > I'm not sure I fully understand what was suggested earlier about > dialog boxes. What are they?
