That fixes it. Actually, I have a dual-monitor setup, with a dual-head video card. When I first noticed the problem, one monitor was set to 32-bit and the other to 16-bit color, but the behavior was the same on both. After your message, I set both monitors to be 32-bit, and with fresh CVS, changed one of the masks back to RGB:128,128,128. Then, instead of the dual 32-bit setting fixing the problem, it showed a black square (!) on either monitor. Weird, but using the red mask fixes it, so I'm happy. "Phew!" is right.
