In the next 2 days, I'd like to post the latest audacity.pot, a source tarball, and Windows build, as the first pre-1.2.0 release. We'll advertise them on the mailing lists for people who want to help find bugs, and encourage the translators to use them to test their translations. (I will do a Mac build as soon as I have time, but I don't think I'll have it ready until next week.) I'm planning to take care of the .pot file and source tarball. Vaughan, can you post a Windows build? Would you mind creating an installer for this version? Go ahead and package it up as if it's the real 1.2.0, for testing - but then name the installer "audacity-win-1.2.0pre1.exe". Feature freeze doesn't mean no code checkins. To me it means: 1. No refactoring. If you need to make a change, find a way to work with the code as-is to minimize the chance of breaking anything. 2. Focus on bug fixes. 3. Email the devel list after every change you make. 4. Only modify or add a translatable string if absolutely necessary. Discuss on the devel list first, and then add to a list of changes that we can give to the translators. 5. When you find a bug, either fix it right away, or add it to bugzilla, so there's no possible chance we can forget about it: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/bugzilla In addition to trying to fix all of the bugs in bugzilla that we can, and getting the translators started, we should also be working on documentation. I'm planning to rewrite the wxhelp documentation from scratch. My goal is for it to be very brief - just a couple of sentences for each menu item, widget on the screen, and dialog item. Tony's complete html reference manual is great, but now that we've decided on the (more or less) final interface for version 1.2.0, it's time to clean it up. Everyone is welcome to help with this - please coordinate with Tony. Tony, are there major sections of the manual that need to be written that you'd like volunteers for? - Dominic |
