Category: Website Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Fixed Priority: 3 Private: No Submitted By: Laguz (mkvii) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: website: scientific notation for probablities looks ugly Initial Comment: I looked at the "Creatures" in Game System at the Stendhal-Homepage and found this at giant kobold creature drops: Probability: 5.0E-4% I wondered what that could be. I think it would look much more nice in decimal. Beside that, i made a comment at the thread "[ 2155384 ] Half-PK marked", i didnt realized that is was already closed, but it is still a bug. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Katie Russell (kymara) Date: 2009-03-11 14:09 Message: php is doing it automatically. my proposed fix is something like function formatNumber($amount) { if($amount<0.0001) { return number_format($amount, 6, '.', ''); } else { return $amount; } } but it doesn't work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Astrid Sawatzky (astridemma) Date: 2009-02-22 14:40 Message: i think scientific notation is much harder to read for those poor people not addicted to math :-) (i am addicted btw) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2009-02-07 16:30 Message: well all the others are in dec. so y wouldent this one be. it not that hard to read just dif than the others :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2009-02-06 04:11 Message: i say leave scientific notation for scientist average user may be lost, i personally never use"E" notation only 10^... so i wast lost too :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Katie Russell (kymara) Date: 2009-02-06 03:41 Message: that means 5 x 10^(-4), it's known as scientific notation. It is 0.0005. I think it's a matter of personal taste what you find easier to understand. Personally for me when numbers get so small I find it easier to read scientific notation. What does anyone else think? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=101111&aid=2550664&group_id=1111 |
