This reminds me of the different /kinds/ of magic in Laraheem. Alurkan: Most powerful of the ancient magics. Most of it is (luckily) long forgotten. Spoken in the Alurkan tounge. High Elvish and Night Elvish: Potent, but more naturally-based magic still in use. This is the most commonly studied magic. Draconic: Almost as powerful as the Alurkan magic (though many dragons boast it is stronger). Humans with draconic heritage (some sorcerers) can use this and learn it completely on their own. Regular humans, and even most elves can't really handle the power of the energies this form brings. Clerical: I haven't really thought about this of Laraheem; members of the clergy of any of the religions don't generally have any magical power unless they've studied (or discovered) one of the other three forms. The closest thing to this is the naturally-oriented healing magic of the elves. There's still much I need to work on in Laraheem; the fate of the other four branches of the Alurian family of languages; how the Efreet and Djinn work in; gnomes; orks; dwarves; the night elves need a stronger role. If anyone was wondering, I do plan to write books about this world, though not until I've fully delved along the Val'hatian branch of the Alurian language tree (I've barely scratched the surface with Indo-Alurian, really; the lexicon only has about 35 words in it so far). |
